Reaction: I feel that cuts are important in the selection of players for your roster. The issue that arises is that some coaches just don’t know what to look for in a player. Many coaches set out in search to the rare freak of nature athlete. Upon searching they come to realize that these diamond in the rough athletes not born, they are made. Establishing a criteria for player selection would benefit the coaching portion, but for the parent and athletes it could never be right. I’ve never been cut personally, but my friends have.
In many cases, these selections seem wrong because we as athletes never know and will be able to understand a coach’s intentions. If I was selecting players, a criteria composed of several attributes would be clear upon trying out for my team. In the article it stated that many players that build their life around sports being cut from a high school team can be damaging to their self esteem. I feel that if a player was cut from a high school team, in many cases they weren’t coachable. Being big heading and naïve prevents a lot of good athletes from being great athletes. Cutting them should make them work harder and make them a better
