Why Do Big Cats Trade Illegal
MA4 Essay- The Illegal Big cat trade The illegal trade of big cats is leading them and the entire world towards annihilation. This is because they keep herbivores from taking over and decimating plants. Not only that, but what they are used for is sickening. They are pointlessly killed for “medicine” that has not been scientifically proven to work, trophy pets, and for cash grabs towards tourists that are none the wiser. This business needs to be stopped or at the very least become so minuscule that the effects are not as rampant as they are today.
According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife, the illegal trade of big cats and their parts is a worldwide, multimillion dollar business. While this detestable practice may not be completely eradicated,

An article by a student in the University of Lincoln and others stated that circus animals were poorly fed, kept in too small cages, given low stimulation, subjected to human interaction which is not natural for wild animals, constant movement, and much more. Those that only have big cats as pets to show off to others are not going to provide the best care for the animal as they are not an expert in big cats. They either don’t care or have a misguided sense of what is best for the cats. Individuals who get big cat cubs are more than likely to give them up as they get older because they don’t realize either how big the cat gets or how difficult it is to care for big cats. Disreputable cub pettings/ photoshoots are a horrendous procedure that takes a cub away from their mother and forces the cub to stay awake and be handled by strangers. Methods to keep the cub awake as shown in a video by Big Cat Rescue include shaking, bouncing, making sure their head stays up, and rubbing their stomachs which for cats is a weak point thus why most don’t like to be touched there. They are also fed a poor diet of formula and raw meat which is like trying to feed a newborn steak. Big cat hybrids may look cool, but many suffer from numerous health …show more content…

The number of elephants and rhinos are declining in nations where animals are housed on national parks and rising in nations where the animals are privately owned and farmed by individuals due to property rights and private goods. Most nations where elephants and rhinos are housed on national parks a common ownership has been established by the government and the responsibility for these animals is not individualized by any one person, thus, the proper care that is needed is not delivered. However, in nations where individuals are allowed to own elephants and rhinos, responsibility is clear and maintenance is adhered. Nations were there are individual owners the stakes for healthy animals are much higher and necessary.…

For hundreds of years, animals have been used for our entertainment. Although most people have been to the circus sometime in their lives, they do not think about what goes on behind the scenes. When you think of the circus; you think of having a good time, with plenty of excitement. You think of goofy clowns, acrobats and popcorn. You rarely think about what happens when the show is over. But for some the show never ends. Chimpanzees and other animals used for our entertainment are usually abused and mistreated.…

A rapidly growing trade for the Transnational Organized Crime groups is the illegal wildlife trade. “By its very nature, it is almost impossible to obtain reliable figures for the value of illegal wildlife trade. Experts at TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, estimate that it runs into hundreds of millions of dollars.” (2015). Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, and even sea creatures like turtles are just a few animals that are being poached for this trade. The elephants for their ivory and Rhinos for their horns, is all that a poacher is after and metric tons of the stuff is being seized. The question to that is, how much is getting through that nobody knows about? Plants, yes plants, and other animals are all being sold for such…

Have you ever attending a circus before? Have you seen the thrill in they eyes of innocent children that are surprised by the lights, hoops, fire and large animals? Nobody know what happens when the lights shut off and the crowd disappears. At the circus animals are showing off talents that wild animals would not have obtained in their habitats. Nancy Colier argues in the article that the circus is a talent show for the animals that exhibits animal cruelty and abuse. Colier is correct that the circus exhibits animal cruelty and abuse, but I do not agree that the solution she states would be enough to notice the problem with the circus.…

There was a time when man killed animals for food, clothing and shelter. Now people kill animals for trophies and to stroke their egos for bragging rights. “Every year, tens of thousands of wild animals, representing hundreds of different species, are killed by American trophy hunters in foreign countries” (“Trophy Hunting”). “The heads, hides, tusks, and other body parts of most of these animals are legally imported to the United States by the hunters” (“Trophy Hunting”). “Many animals imported as trophies are members of species protected under the Endangered Species Act, such as leopards and African elephants” (“Trophy Hunting”). These facts provide evidence that…

    Brutality of Ivory trade

In 1989, CITIES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) approved a worldwide ban on ivory trade due to extensive poaching reducing the African elephant population by more than half. However, levels of poaching and illegal trade are getting out of control once again. Since 1997, certain countries such as Botswana and Zimbabwe have tried to weaken the ban by allowing the sale of thousands of kilograms of ivory to China and Japan. It was not until 2012 that CITIES recognized that elephant poaching had reached unsustainable levels (Elephants and the ivory trade, 1). The illegal trade of ivory is pushing elephant poaching to the point where elephants are vulnerable to extinction. This terrible, wasteful act of poaching will put many species, as well as our own, at risk and harm the economy unless we take immediate action.…

Second of all Trophy hunting should be allowed for protection. In the Junior Scholastic article it states “ African’s are scared of lion”. About 200,000 live in Africa and many if them are dangerous. For example the junior scholastic article states “ Conflicts between human and animals rose 55 percent from 2012 to 2014”. My evidence is claiming that the conflict is rising and humans need protection. Sence trophy hunting is legal then thats a way for their protection.…

To continue, the smuggling of plants and animals into new ecosystems is caused by a number of reasons. In terms of money to be made, illegal wildlife smuggling is second to illegal drugs, with illegal arms trade right behind. The U.S. State Department reports that this industry is worth around ten billion dollars a year. Plants and animals are commonly imported into this country for luxury items, ethnic foods, and traditional medicines.…

    Elephant Poaching

“We are experiencing what is likely to be the greatest percentage loss of elephants in history,” said Richard G. Ruggiero, an official with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (Ney York Times; December 3, 2012). The poaching of elephants started in the late 1800’s and is still happening today. People are slaughtering these majestic animals for their ivory tusks. Ivory has been sold on the black market for millions of dollars. Before the start of ivory poaching there were millions of elephants in the world in both Africa and India, but today because of the hunting for ivory, there are barely any of these giants left in the wild. Throughout history Europeans have been moving in on central African states to make money out of ivory found on the tusk of elephants. Ivory is often used to make piano keys, knives, and other tools. Still today poachers are killing elephants daily for this unique commodity. Like hunters here in the United States, some poachers kill elephant for fun but still take the tusks to sell and others for their rare collections of wild ivory tusks. Despite worldwide protecting from many agencies, the value placed on elephant products, particularly ivory, the lack of effective enforcement and the remoteness of areas of elephant habitat, means that there are those that still kill elephants for profit. These poaching habits have led to a huge reduction of live elephants in the wild today.…

It all happened the other night, while I was at the station working on some paper work. I believe it was Saturday. I got a call, and because I did not know what I was getting myself into... I answered the phone, it was the Bennett triplets, MEOW... they can talk! They went on and on and on about these... these mittens, they said they were missing, it was all a blur, they all talked over one another, something about pie... and I couldn’t really make much sense of it. Anyways I went to their house, and boy, this story is a little bit strange and was definitely a paw-ful.…
