Hong Kong was nominated to host the 2022 “Gay Olympics” It was one of the cities they wanted to host it at, as they felt “it could ultimately choose the Asian city in a bid to shine a light on its poor same-sex rights record.” It is also the first and only Asian city to be nominated to host the competition. Hong Kong people believe that ‘the Gay Games needs to come here because we need to improve LGBT rights’. This was supported by Out in HK, an LGBT community based around athletic activities, it was founded in 2014 by Dennis Philipse, who believes the games would be of great benefit to the city. “LGBT issues in Asia are still a bit of a challenge legally, it is not on the same level compared to other places in the world. The gay games are a great opportunity for Hong Kong - it might change the city and the perception Hongkongers have towards the LGBT community.” Some Hongkongers clearly believe that the Gay Games would open people’s minds and acceptance towards gay people and make them feel included rather than feeling unaccepted. Everyone has their own reasons as to why they think they’re a victim of homophobia, but it's mostly because of religious beliefs, homosexuality isn’t the only issue, directed towards lesbians, lesbophobia, biphobia targets bisexuality and transphobia targets transgenders. These problems were rapidly increasing in the past few years, mostly in Asia. The Federation of Gay Games’ main targets is also to change these people’s minds about being gay, one of their main aims is also to make them truly believe that homosexuals aren’t bad people and that they are good human beings who are good at what they do and deserve the love and support from everyone, in order to feel better about themselves, homophobia has caused gay people to struggle opening up to their loved ones, and to be themselves.
