Snoring is the sound that is made when the flow of air through your mouth and nose is blocked while someone sleeps. Almost half of all people snore at least some of the time no matter if is male or female. That is why; there are three main causes which facilitate snoring in the people such as overweight, sleep apnea and drinking alcohol.
Being overweight may cause people to snore. According to Ratini (2104) argue that one of the major problem to snore is to overweight that can effect men, but snoring is a problem of both genders. Because of the extra weight can build up in the throat and cause the airway to become narrower. It causes changes in the structure of the upper airway is closed, and the individual stops breathing for a few seconds. Also, the number one cause of snoring is how much grease they have and what people weigh. This means that as people lose weight, they will get to a weight where they are much more likely not to snore. Snoring can also prevent you from getting enough quality sleep as being tired during the daytime.
Getting sleep apnea may cause to snore. This is a serious condition in which throat tissues obstruct the airway and prevent breathing. Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which breathing stops or becomes very shallow. These interruptions can last from a few seconds to minutes and may occur more than 30 times per hour. This causes an airway collapse or obstruction of them during sleep. As a result, breathing again with a snore or snort. People who have sleep apnea usually snore very loudly. However, not everyone who snores has apnea. According to National Institute of Health (NIH, 1995) declared that sleep apnea appears to be as common as some better known diseases. Sleep apnea is related with people who are overweight, family history or small airways.
Another cause that produces snore is drinking alcohol. Drinking too much alcohol before bedtime can cause the muscles in the throat
