They, especially the children may have to face many challenges. Such as- discrimination, adapting a new culture, sense of identity, and most of all, racism etc. Which turns their (children) life “Inside Out.” In the article “Refugee and Immigrant children: A Comparison” by Ana Marie Fantino and Alice Colak, the majority of the children have trouble settling in a society, with different cultures and generation etc. In “Refugee and Immigrant children: A Comparison,” the author writes ,“...refugee… children may encounter society’s discrimination and racism, and… have to accomplish the central task of childhood and adolescence-developing a sense of identity- while trying to bridge generational and cultural gaps” (Fantino and Colak 71). Which turns their life inside out because when refugees flee, they expect to experience something good. But the refugee children may experience some stuff (such as- racism (bullying) etc.), which they don’t even know about nor neither was expected, which could harm them mentally. In the novel “Inside Out & Back again” by Thanhha Lai, Ha writes about, being bullied in school because of not knowing english and race. Ha says, “He pokes my cheek. Howls from everyone. He pokes my chest. I see nothing but squeezed eyes, twisted mouths” (Lai 146). From which, I could infer that Ha is being bullied in school because of her skin color, and not knowing english. Which turns her life inside out because during the time period, Ha was living in, America was going through racism, which made Ha’s life even worse (twist inside out). Which makes her feel sad because in Saigon, she didn’t had to face any problem, like bully. Racism is a complex issue, that refugees may have to face. But not only refugees, in fact the majority of people in the world may have gone through
