Why Do We Hate The Samaritans?
Love the people you hate the most. God’s chosen people were called to love unconditionally, yet they absolutely hated the Samaritans. “Love your neighbor as yourself. For there is no commandment greater than these”(Mark 12:31). The Samaritans were viewed as a disgrace in the eyes of the Jews. “A person’s a person, no matter how small”(Dr. Seuss). What gives us the right to hate someone because of the way they look, what they believe, or how they live? Israel was split into the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. The Northern Kingdom was Israel and the Southern Kingdom was Judah. However, the Assyrians rocked the Israelites’ world when they conquered their nation and drove out most of them. The Israelites were sent to numerous other countries. After Assyria conquered Israel, they sent five tribes into Northern Kingdom of Israel to introduce their religion and customs. The people of the tribes of Assyria and the Israelites still living in Israel intermarried and became known as the Samaritans. The Samaritans were a racially mixed society of Jewish and pagan ancestry. They lived in …show more content…
The story begins with Jewish man was walking down the road when suddenly;

robbers attacked him, beat him, stole every possession he had, and left him there half dead. Later that day, a Jewish priest and a Levite walked by and ignored the Jew as if they had not seen him. However a Samaritan, a race hated by Jews, bandaged the man’s wounds, put him on his donkey, took him to an inn, and since the Jew was robbed of all his money, the Samaritan paid the innkeeper to care for him until he was well. Jesus tells this story because of how compelling the meaning is. The implication is this; God calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Who is our neighbor? Everyone is our neighbor and we must not discriminate because of his or her

    In the “The Parable of the Good Samaritan” the man who was robbed and left for dead was shown no compassion by the people passing by, even by a priest. They show no interest to the man and looked the other way. That is until the Samaritan passed by and showed him compassion, and only then did then did the robbed man’s suffering stop. “[…] bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him“(34). This displays that only compassion can stop people from hurting. If no one had shown this man compassion as the Samaritan did, surely he would have…

There are moments where it’s okay to be indifferent. This moral responsibility that we have is important to keep our indifference in check. We have a moral responsibility to help right the wrongs in the world but to an extent.…

    According to the Hebrews, their people escaped out of bondage in Egypt, relocated to a “promised land,” and then proceeded to form a united kingdom that would be known as Israel (Spielvogel 34). To govern this kingdom, kings and dynasties were chosen by the Hebrews’ all-powerful God, the first of which was King Saul. Succeeding Saul was King David, who managed to defeat the Philistines and gain control of Canaan. Also during his reign, King David established the capital of Israel at Jerusalem, which remains a religious center in today’s world. However, it was David’s son, King Solomon, who brought Israel to the height of its power and came to be regarded as one of the greatest and wisest kings in history. Solomon went on to build the famous Hebrew Temple in Jerusalem…

    In society today, envy and anger run rampant among people. Those with envy and anger show their hatred toward the world in many ways, including mass shootings and harming others both physically and mentally. In Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus describes the greatest commandment by stating, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” If one cannot love oneself, one will never be able to love their…
