they think they can kill my people. Police brutality in detroit is affecting African Americans because it hurts families, it takes the lives of innocent people and it makes the image of the police community look bad.
First, Police Brutality is a major problem because it affects African American men.
According to (Apnorc.org) “The difficult relationships between the police and Blacks in the united states is evident in the deep rooted racial divisions”. It is also sad for the public's view of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Some even say that “Violence against civilians by the police officers is an extremely or very serious problem”. Research says “Nearly three quarters of blacks and less than 20 percent of whites” has said that. We get stripped of our rights because of our skin color . We should feel comfortable in our homes and our neighborhoods. They make people feel unwanted and they make us feel like we are less of people . But we belong here And We are somebody. Statistics show “These differences are also evident in public trust of local police forces. Among all Americans, 60 percent say they can trust their local police to do what is right for them and their community often or always, 28 percent say sometimes, and 11 percent say rarely or …show more content…
never’.
Secondly, Police Brutality is accurate in our everyday lives.
The article “Mapping Police Violence” says that “Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015”. And “37% of unarmed people killed by police in 2015’. Despite of being only 13% of the U.S population. Police brutality connects to racism, But it’s towards African Americans, Racism has always been an issue for blacks. It causes a dramatic impact on Black communities and lives because Our leaders fought for our rights such as, Martin luther king Jr. , Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman and etc. It's still affecting us in a negative impact. We was born with natural rights, And we are discouraged of them everyday. Also ”Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015.” , and “Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 2 of these deaths (Matthew Ajibade and Eric Harris) resulted in convictions of officers involved. Only 1 of 2 officers convicted for their involvement in Matthew Ajibade death received jail time. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail and allowed to serve this time exclusively on weekends. Deputy Bates, who killed Eric Harris, will be sentenced May
31.”
Next, I have an actual story of a Police brutality victim. Sandra Bland, 7/13/15 “Waller County, TX: Sandra Bland, 28, was pulled over for a routine traffic stop, which the deputy quickly escalated by removing Sandra from the vehicle and physically restraining her. She would later die in a jail cell under dubious circumstances.Trooper Brian Encina was charged with perjury for lying about the events leading up to Sandra's arrest.” And Michael Brown was shot to death by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, in August 2014, it awakened a movement called the “Black Lives Matter Movement.” and it is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. (BLM) contributes and helps the Black culture because it's our voice. Police brutality is affecting our culture. It's ruining innocent people's lives and hurting families. Black Lives Matter is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life. We are working to rebuild the Black liberation movement. We need peace and liberty our lives matter too.
In conclusion, Police strip young African American men of their manhood . People fear for their lives when they see the police. You should be able to walk around your neighborhood without being worried if someone is going to shoot you. They think every Black man is a gang banger , drug dealer and etc. they categorize us from our skin color . Police abuse their power . They have a voice , But who is going to speak for us? Who is gonna enforce our rights? Police brutality is an issue that affects thousand of lives. It is a terrible thing for a mother or a father to wake up and their child is no longer here with them. Racism is still a accurate issue in the world today. We need to stand up as one and come together as a nation. Stop abusing people because of their skin color we were all made different for a reason lets respect each other and help one another.
