Imagine living in a world where every woman has the same, perfect appearance. This sounds insanely boring, right? Well, Media advertisements and societal views pressure women to appear perfect all of the time. Although looking perfect is impossible, numerous sources of media and people of society promote and encourage women of the world to look flawless. The pressure that women face to encompass perfection can lead to serious and even deadly consequences. The pressure women face is a major issue that ultimately makes women feel poorly about themselves. Jean Kilbourne, an internationally known woman known for her work defending women in advertising, states that the industry of advertisements has made over 100 billion dollars. Companies tend to only hire women who have an ideal body shape to brand their company. The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders states, "The body type portrayed in advertising as ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females." Businesses disregard various figures that women around the world have, and only let women who are tall, thin, and enormous breasted to model for their companies. They believe that using an average woman to brand their company would be unappealing to consumers. Businesses assume that if their models are perfect, their brand will come off as perfect as well. With brands using this tactic, it lowers female's self-esteem dramatically. Media advertisements also use photoshop to make women seem perfect for magazines, billboards, the internet, and other forms of media. By using photoshop, companies airbrush over imperfections on models and celebrities on computers. Advertisements do this because they want a perfect face to speak for their brand, not someone who has imperfections. When companies use photoshop in advertisements, it gives women an unrealistic standard on what their appearance should
