In 1967 when I enlisted in the Marine Corp we did not have the draft, the Marine Corp never used the draft but the Army did. Around, the spring of 1967 the Corp decided it needed the draft to fill all the slots open. So they started to drafting, we then had a lot of men starting to call their congressman about the way they were treated and wanted them to change the Corp. The quality of the Marine Corp started to fall so after a few years of the draft they dropped the draft, then the quality came back I feel that if you want to be in the military then you should enlist. With the job market the way it is today we should have a large group of people waiting to join. I see in the news that people want their men and women back and protesting they don’t want them to go to war, who does. But we take an oath to protect and honor the constitution of the United States of America. When called we will protect our nation no matter what. So why are these people crying about their family members going overseas let’s look at it like this, it’s a job you get paid to do a service for the country. It is an honor to do this, be proud to serve and protect we learn, and we grow when in the military many men and women have become adults fast, even if they didn’t want to they have to. Does this make them a better person I think so, if some turn out bad or misguided they would have been misguided anyway. So is it time to reinstate the draft I say no. Maybe the politicians should, be drafted and serve their country instead of trying to place people where they do not want to be. Give the military men and women more pay and respect them for what they do. When we came home from Vietnam we were spit on and called names, these men and women deserve more, honor them do not humiliate them. I have spoken to my children about going into the military, but they…
One of the most distinct advantages of a military draft is that it guarantees the safety of our country due to a higher rate of involvement of service men and women who will protect and ensure combat readiness for a country in case if its national security is under the risk ("List Of 12 Key Pros And Cons Of Military Draft"). This allows more soldiers to fight in times of war and when multiple countries are affected. Also,…
The reinstatement of a military draft is a controversial issue that has surfaced in American society. Although a draft would challenge the liberties granted to us in the Constitution and be detrimental to our society, some people believe that a draft would be insignificant to all the benefits we receive as American citizens, and that the draft can be utilized as an effective tool.…
With long, drawn-out wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, regularly scheduled deployments to other areas of the world, and tensions between the U.S. and Iran threatening to ignite another war, our military is spread too thin. For our military to complete its mission of defending our country effectively, it is obvious that more personnel are needed. One way to ensure the military is not under-manned would be to reinstitute the draft. Reinstituting the draft would ensure the military an unlimited supply of new recruits. However, there are other, better, and more cost-effective ways to ensure that our military is properly manned without resorting to a draft.…
The subject of drafting men into the army isn’t very complex, it is a mere answer of either you are or you aren’t for drafting. Author, Charles B. Rangel, in his article “Bring Back the Draft,” he shares with us his view point of the draft. From the name of the title you already know that the author is for a draft. His article came from Casebook: The Draft and National Service. I will discuss in my essay Charles B. Rangel’s viewpoints and then cover my own personal view of his article. Rangel is a democrat, whose beliefs are bold and clear for bringing the draft back into the United States of America. I feel that bringing the draft back into the United States is not what the government should do. A draft only enlists the inexperienced civilian who does not know much about war, and this would only increase the death count in warfare combat.…
As of today, the military has a volunteer service only as its profile. As stated in a Farlex dictionary a military volunteer is “a person who freely enlists for service”. Any american citizen over 18 can volunteer for any branch regardless of gender, ethic, or religion. Other than soldiers, doctors, lawyers, scientists and a wide range of other careers are recruited and used in the military. The volunteer system supports the Declaration of Independence's phrase of guaranteeing citizens the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” by giving Americans the freedom of choice to chose to serve the country, or live about freely. The majority of America doesn't like the idea of having a draft introduced again, since it doesn’t exactly fit the phrase of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, in all aspects of citizens trying to achieve the “American Dream”. Though the majority of citizens is…
We Should Not Reinstate the Draft I would never have come to think that I would need the military draft to be reinstated but I think it will be beneficial to our country. It's been years since they have wanted or needed a draft, but in view of the United States being attacked on September 11, 2001, I feel our country must be prepared and prepared to defend itself. If being prepared means reinstating the draft, a compulsory summons for military service, then I think they ought to think about this a reasonable proposal. I think the tragic events of September 11 will evoke most people to agree with me. Since September 11 they have seen a surge of patriotism in this country that appeared hidden for plenty of years. I am so glad patriotism was not…
The draft is needed so that military sacrifice and risk may be more equitably shared.…
In some countries, every young person must serve two years of military service. The general public in the United States feels that we should allow that in our country while other people disagree. A two-year period of military service should be mandatory for all young adults, but making the devotion to serving that time in the military should be each individual’s decision. Personally, young adults should be able to live their lives of how they want it, and other mature people should be able to volunteer for the military. Each individual should be able to make their own choices in life and not be forced to do something they strongly disagree with. Granting opportunities to young and mature people will help the military enlist a mature recruit, strengthen the military clan, and attract even more people to join in the military. We should be able to grant choices to the young and mature adults and respect their decision.…
At the age of 18 you must (if you are male) sign up for selective service (the draft) and you are eligible to enlist in the military regardless of your gender. Why is it that you can deploy to another country, fight for your country, get shot, lose limbs and have the memories of that with you for the rest of your life, but you can’t purchase alcohol? If you are old enough to risk your life to fight for your country and fight for the freedoms of this country then you should be able to go buy a beer at the bar with your buddies. Jeff Rainforth, a man who ran for congress, said that “Since the age was raised, many young adults have drunk more abusively than in the past. Like national Prohibition, it was been counter-productive. Raising the drinking age brought about more problems than it solved.” and went on to say that he recommends that is the legal drinking age was not lowered he recommends that military members can not go to combat until age…
People under the age of twenty one are not psychologically fit to go to war. Eighteen is the youngest age you can be to join the war without a parents’ permission, which is still a very young age in this society. The legal drinking age is only twenty one in America. If young adults can not drink legally they should not be allowed to go overseas and experience the terrorizing war scene. In the book NAM the author writes “Next I had to kick one dead body in the side of the head until part of his brain started coming out the other side.” (Baker 59) Older soldiers made the young cadet do this just to get the feeling of killing Vietnamese people. Even though he was throwing up simultaneously and to the point of dry heaving, they still made him kick until they were satisfied. Eighteen to twenty one year olds are still developing and if they see the things that go on during wars, their lives will be ruined forever and could mentally changed. Life long friends are made during late teens and early twenties and if young people go to war and their friends get killed right beside them they are going to be afraid of getting close to someone because they fear losing them. Most young adults haven’t even experienced many deaths and going from high school to a war full of dead bodies will affect them forever.…
If every person served in the US Military we would not be having some of the problems that the news is putting out today. For example, when the news put pictures out of US citizens disrespecting, and stepping on the American Flag! Personally I believe those people need to be kicked out of this country, the rule should be if you disrespect this country then get out.…
Lionel Waxman (2004) wrote an article explaining that a draft could be counterproductive. He claims that it would produce an inferior quality military, which I agree with. Today 's military has to have more than just muscle, it has to have brains. The…
I believe everyone should not serve two years in the military because people should make their own discussion , they will miss their family, and many people will not know what to do and get killed. This is not a so good idea what happens if everybody want to do something else with their life instead of the army. We should support other people discussion . This my opinion of this problem.…
In my opinion children should not be required to be in the military because they might be involved in the war and they will not have the opportunity to pursue their desire career.…
