At the start of the novel Kevin passed the inination test, and he joined the gangs. They started having fun playing together. At the end the story gang has dismiss and gone and the “Walk of Death” was also gone. This extract is a significant moment because this is when the “Walk of Death” ends and shows exciting moment at the end. This is where she builds lot of suspense and tension in the story.
MacPhail builds and crate suspense in the extract by focusing on the creaking beam throughout the entire extract. At the beginning of the extract I read that there was an “ominous creak”. She also used cracked and crackled to emphasize that the beam was crashing slowly. She used this term five to six times in this extract; it shows that it’s a repetition throughout. In the end of the extract the author wrote “Salom had gone” This creates surprisement and mystery because the reader has no idea why he is gone, and where and when he has gone. By doing this, it lets the reader think and figure out the question, which created suspense. The author also created a short sentence with bit descriptions. This will let the reader think and get more interested in this book.
MacPhail builds her suspense and tension in the passage by using a huge amount of descriptions on reaching Tommy’s hand. For example “He threw himself back, dragging glory with him, Tommy grabbed Kevin’s jacket and pulled’ this effect shows the speed and the mood of the pa6ragraph. This tells the reader that something is going to happen, because if Kevin didn’t reach Tommy, Kevin would fall and die. Based on quote the writer used a massive amount of descriptions of the action. The author crafted really well, that it made the reader felt tension and
