Why doesn’t all the popcorn pop?
Purpose
The purpose was to see why doesn´t all the popcorn pop and how can all the popcorn pop. The impact this experiment could have is that people will know how to make all the popcorn pop, all the factors that can help popcorn pop and which materials you will need to make all the popcorn pop.
Hypothesis
If I change the type of oil then more popcorn will pop.
Materials
- 1 bottle of Canola oil
- 1 bottle Vegetable oil
- 1 bottle of Corn oil
- 1 pan
- 1 bottle of popcorn
- 1 burner
- 9 plastic bags
Procedures
1. Divide the bottle of popcorn in groups of 150 kernels
2. Preheat the pan in the burner which each Oil every time 2 minutes
3. Pour the first group of kernels in the pan with each type of oil
4. Cook for 4 minutes
5. Place the popped-popcorn and non-popped-popcorn in a bowl and put information in the bowl – type of oil used, #number of popcorn pop, # of not popcorn pop
6. Analyze data from the 9 trials
- Make graphs for each Oil
7. See if the results support my hypothesis

Which leaves with an average of 97.5% of kernels popped. For the canola oil in the first trial 149out of 150 kernels popped, in the second trial 148 out of 150 kernels popped and in the last trial 149 out of 150 kernels popped. That means an average of 99.06% of kernels popped. For the vegetable oil, in the first trial 147 out of 150 kernels popped, for the second trial 146 out of 150 kernels popped and for the last trial all the kernels popped 150 out of 150. Vegetable oil had an average of 98.43%. The type of oil that popped the most kernels was the canola
