Why Doesn T Some People Achieve The American Dream?
Why can’t some people achieve the American Dream? People in America can achieve the American Dream, but others cannot achieve the American Dream. You're looked at different in America if you have less than someone else or worse opportunities. I believe that some citizens can achieve the American Dream and some cannot.

Although some can go out, get a job and keep it, others cannot do this and struggle for money. “Almost two thirds say they live from paycheck to paycheck forty seven percent say that no matter how hard you work, they cannot get ahead. At first, Brandon King uses examples of the Great Depression, the Great Recession, and other economic standpoints to support his allegation of proving the American Dream is still alive. King contradicts his economic claim with, “Instead of trying to interfere with the enterprise that creates jobs and growth, we should rely on the values of the American Dream: that anybody can climb out of hardship and achieve success” (King, para 8). King is saying it does not matter where someone begins as long as they aspire to be successful. This counters the previously mentioned comment by Paul Krugman: not everyone can achieve success no matter how hard they try. Brandon King adds another source from a newspaper editor in Atlanta to affirm this claim, “’the Great Recession didn’t kill the American Dream. But the promise of a good life in exchange for hard, honest work has been bruised and frayed for millions of middle class Americans’” (Chapman in King, para 8). The American Dream is attainable for those who have to resources, but most people fail because they have to start at the…

The expectation that the American Dream has- set, that many believe to be a reachable goal, is a trap that a large variety of people have fallen into, and not been able to resurface from. Previously, the American Dream was thought to consist of luxuries that at the time many citizens in society can not achieve because of money issues within each family as well as health issues, without the included prices of food for the family on a daily basis. Because of media, many would assume that the American Dream as an easily attained dream that most had or would achieve in the future. Unfortunately, the American Dream has slowly faded due to many factors. According to the Pew Research Center, in 1971, 61% of Americans were considered to be a part of the middle class. Today, the percentage has dropped rapidly to 51%, and within that, 35% are living off of $35,000 or less (Hartmann). With this in mind, the middle class is slowly shrinking while the gap between social classes widen. Because the middle class makes up the majority of the population, it is obviously not good news when a lot of Americans are slowly slipping closer to the poverty line. if the majority of the population is not doing well, the country itself as a whole is not going to be stable either. In other words, it is not the American Dream. In addition to the middle class shrinkage, pessimism in America has risen, and the hope for the American Dream has fallen. In the late 1990s and the early 2000s, Americans were optimistic about the dream because…

The American Dream has never been achievable by everyone; nonetheless, the American Dream has the potential to be achieved by anyone, unfortunately for many Americans it is much harder to achieve the dream when you start lower on the socio-economic hierarchy. The American dream is not necessarily dependent upon your economic status or even your IQ rather it is your work ethic and some of your upbringing. Much like the American Dream, one’s upbringing can be heavily impacted by one’s socio-economic status through their childhood. Both influence your ability to achieve your American Dream, your socio-economic status affects this negatively as the you get close to the poverty line from above and even more so as you fall below it.…
