That is until I read how Ponyboy and Johnny saved them kids from a burning church and I was awe struck. I’m not saying socs are good people, but it would take a lot of courage and guts to run into a burning building for people you didn’t even know. I don’t think many people, including me, would have been brave enough to do that. I guess when I looked at what these two did out of pure kindheartedness I compared it to my gang. We would pick on and beat up greasers for fun, we nearly killed Johnny when we bet him up and nearly drowned Ponyboy out cold-blooded revenge. When I realised how terrible and inhumane the things we did for fun were, I decided I didn’t want to be like that anymore. I didn’t want to have a part in the classism around me and just wanted to be friends with these guys. I now understood that I was just a teenage boy, not a soc anymore. I just wanted to be friends with everyone, no matter what class, wealth, socio-economic status, or anything.
