Why I Should An Office Assistant Position
1. I would like to have the Office Assistant position this year because I feel that it would be a good way to further my experiences on campus. Last year, as a first year, I was introduced to many new and interesting opportunities in terms of organizations/clubs to join, classes to take, and job opportunities. I feel that I took advantage of the clubs and classes, but not so much the job opportunities, as I was trying to get adjusted to campus life. This year, I am trying to take full advantage of all the opportunities available to me by applying to be an Office Assistant because I feel that it would benefit me to gain more customer service skills, meet new people, and generally improve my job-oriented abilities in a comfortable environment. …show more content…
While I was working as a server, there was one night where we were very short-staffed. There were three servers working and I was the most experienced. One night, we got very swamped, and there were about twenty tables in the restaurant. The newest server was talking to another employee, the person that was doing the dishes. The two of them got into an argument, the server got upset, and proceeded to punch him. The manager needed to deal with the situation, which prevented all three individuals from doing anything in the restaurant, whether it was dishes, serving, or doing manager things. Meanwhile, in the front of the restaurant, we were down to two servers, and twenty tables. Between myself and one other server, we managed to keep everyone happy, despite some tables getting disgruntled for various reasons. The other server was getting very stressed because she was not used to having that many tables at one time, so she ended up not being able to take anymore guests that were coming in, including a party of five and three other couples. I told her to take the party of five and leave the three couples to me. While she took care of the party of five and her other tables, I managed to seamlessly incorporate the three new tables into my routine, all the while keeping a calm head, apologizing to any tables that were annoyed, and getting everyone their food, checks, and drinks in a timely

Because of this, medical and administrative assistants handle a lot of the primary arrangements regarding the appointment scheduling, examination room organization and sanitization, checking patients in and out, as well as various other tasks that the physicians simply do not have time for.…

At my previous employment, I was a cashier and a server at a buffet style restaurant. I was a new hire and was still going through the process of being trained. A large group of people came in. The individual training me said that since there were more than ten people in the group, I could add the gratuity to the check, instead of letting them leave it on the table, if the customers agreed to this. Shortly after completing my training, another group of people came in. These individuals had reserved a room for a party. I handled the situation as I had been shown during my training by asking if gratuity was going to be added to the check. I was informed that the individual who had reserved the room would see the servers personally for their gratuity. However, the servers received no gratuity and held it against me for not doing what I was supposed to. They were not aware that I had not been told that, in a case such as this, groups coming in for parties are automatically to be charge gratuity.…
