Why I Want To Be A Border Patrol Agent
Bullets grazing my head while in the middle of the desert with military equipment fending for my life. The thrill of being in a life or death situations gives me an adrenaline rush, so I think. I grew the courage to believe I can withstand being in a shootout in while in the middle of the desert by watching movies on television. Although, on television it’s not quite the same as in real life. On television the good guy’s always comes out on top by either killing the bad guy or arresting him. In real life it’s possible that the good guy may be killed. Although, I believe I can withstand being in a shootout with a criminal, I always have second thoughts in the back of my head. I never been in a real life scenario when a life or death situation occurred and I had to protect myself and others. I am one semester away of completing my bachelor’s degree in criminology and I have been second guessing if I chose the right profession for myself. I am majoring in criminology with hopes of becoming a Border Patrol agent. Since high school I knew I wanted to work as federal agent. Mainly because of the influence from television shows and my love for protecting people. However, while during my college journey I have made a slight change. My desire for becoming a law enforcement officer is to help others and to make a difference. As a local police officer I feel as if I will have more opportunities to help contribute to making a difference if I am in the urban area rather than the rural area. I also feel as if I can fulfill the diversity role in many different police departments, which is an important aspect. My Career is Police Dog Handler. A Police Dog Handler, or K-9 Unit, is a unit in the police force that does specialized police work. They track down suspects, search for missing people, illegal drugs, explosives, and stop a crime in progress. I plan to be in the force after I graduate collage, but before I become a K-9 officer I must be a patrol officer for 3 to 4 years and volunteer on my days off, and have a good home with a fence around my yard and a good dog owner. After I leave the Academy I will be a patrol officer in Mccomb, MS before going to Magnolia, MS to be in the K-9 Division. The main reason I chose this career is that the crime rate and drug use in Mississippi is increasing, not just that but more guns are on the street and more…

As a child I would always watch Miami Vice which is a show about two cops and their experiences while working as detectives in the Miami police department. Through the years I eventually started watching more tv shows about police and what they do. This always kept me on track with the ideas of being coming a police officer or working in the criminal justice department. While it is my dream to become a police officer I also have another career that interest me and that is aviation. I always thought it was cool fly on planes as a kid but I did not become interested in becoming a pilot until this summer when I had started working at Detroit metro airport. With my job as a ramp agent I am in constant contact with airplanes and the pilots that fly them. Throughout my summer I had the chance to talk to many pilots and they told me the things that I would have to do to become a pilot. With that being said I have two careers that interest me and at this moment in my life I do not know which one I like more.…

Police and detective work can be dangerous and stressful. Competition should remain keen for higher paying jobs with State and Federal agencies and police departments in affluent areas. Opportunities will be better in local and special police departments that offer relatively low salaries or in urban communities where the crime rate is relatively high. Applicants with college training in police science or military police experience should have the best opportunities. Because Law enforcement is a demanding field you must be prepared to work long hours, be physically fit and have a clean criminal record.…

My educational goals and plans involve criminal justice, human services, and vet science. I went to Niacc for two years to try and get my Criminal Justice degree. I took several classes for it, but fell short of money to finish what I needed to graduate. I have always been interested in T.V. shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order: SVU, 48 Hours, and Dateline. Those shows give me the idea of what I want to do and who I want to be like. I don't know the destined occupation in that career field that I want to do. I would be okay with any job in that career field though. I have much respect for police officers and fire fighters. There are personal reasons as to why becoming a drug enforcement agent is important to me. I have seen people close to me become consumed by drug and have seen them lose complete control of their lives and reality itself. I find the Federal Bureau of Investigations Agent to be the most intriguing of the bunch. An FBI agent would require the vigorous training, but instill the tools that are necessary for one to survive. I believe my persona knowledge and skills could be very beneficial to country. FBI.gov states, “Each special agent must have the knowledge, skills, commitment, and intestinal fortitude to investigate terrorists, spies, and a raft of dangerous criminals—all while wielding their law enforcement powers with compassion for those they encounter and respect for the U.S. Constitution and the laws they enforce”. The statement here clearly implies the seriousness and commitment that it would require to be an FBI agent. If I could choose one to apply to, this would be the highest on my list.…
