I was very drawn to this profession because I have always been interested in working directly with children and those who have been diagnosed with cancer. I say this because to me, cancer has always played a big role in my life. Knowing the pain and struggles these kids and their families may face, I have decided that I want to make a difference in their lives.
This is why I thought being a pediatric oncology nurse would be a perfect field of nursing for me.

They also interact and inform family members in order to provide comfort and counseling.
Pediatric oncology nurses provide, guide, and evaluate different types of care depending on the patient in order to promote the highest level of holistic care.
Oncology nurses also operate in different work environments. Some settings can include– inpatient or outpatient settings at community hospitals or multi-hospital systems, home health care, hospice, public health, and community nursing.
Based off of my personal findings on a pediatric oncology nurse, what I found most intriguing about the profession is the amount of losses and grievances they go through. According to Teresa M. Conte, it is said that because of the constant loss of their patients, these nurses suffer personal stress, burnout, emotional overload, declining job performance, and an overall poor level of psychological well-being.
