Why I Want To Become Consul
So you wish to become consul (and maybe more) one day. When I heard the news, I was overjoyed, for another family member would be carrying on my legacy. Already, you possess the skills necessary to run. You’ve got my knack for speaking, and my knack for winning people over. Not only that, you’re a member of the elite, which nearly guarantees you a seat somewhere in the political world. But even these skills are not enough to win the political glory you crave. Natural talent may be important, but one must still prepare. My whole life was dedicated to preparing to participate in politics, and look at me now—I’ve been elected censor. Knowing you and your diligence, you will go far. I am honored that you want to be like me—and here’s how you can. You are twelve years old now, which means that your journey into the political world can begin very, very soon. Every first step begins with military service, and you can join at around the age of sixteen. If you want to be a politician, then serving in the military is required to be eligible. Regardless of what age you join, you must serve for ten consecutive years as a member of the …show more content…
There will be about eight other praetors serving this position with you. They will base your election as praetor on your previous offices and services. I know that I keep repeating the importance of your actions as a soldier and a lower-rank politician, but I cannot stress it enough: a lot of work goes into getting into where I am today. I urge you to heed my admonitions to outdo your competition at all times. When you have become praetor, you will be pleased to know that the possibility of becoming a consul is finally within sight. As a praetor, you will have imperium for the first time. You will even have lictors follow you around so that everyone will know your rank while you are in public.
