chemicals in my year as an AS-Chemist. I am currently searching for work experience within the medical setting, in order to gain more knowledge of the in’s and out’s of the profession. I aim to shadow a Doctor at a GP surgery or Hospital, but would particularly like to be more involved in the lab work performed at Hospitals and see some of this in progress.
Currently studying Biology at A-level, I have learnt that this is where my passion lies.
It has taught me many useful skills such as analytical skills, but has also prepared me with a sound knowledge foundation ready to study my Biomedical Degree. I also study Graphic Design, allowing me to develop my creativity and to apply it to other areas, for example to solve problems from a different perspective and be more creative in my thinking. Within Graphics we also do a lot of essay writing and analysing, relevant to my scientific background. My ability to write in depth and confidently about things I have discovered stems from here. My studies in A-level Business Studies have helped me to further develop my essay writing skills, and also improved my calculations – building upon the calculations and problem solving skills I developed whilst studying AS-level Chemistry. I feel as though my subject choices are broad and varied, yet have prepared me well with the knowledge and skills needed for further scientific
study.
Outside of college and studying, I have many hobbies and interests which I enjoy dividing my time up between. Last year I was a part of the Young Enterprise team, creating Eunoia, an environmentally-friendly company, producing a range of products from recycled materials, all were produced by our team. Within Eunoia, I was the marketing deputy, my responsibility was to successfully advertise the company, create awareness and sell the products to our target markets. We deemed very successful, reaching the Regional Finals – Leicestershire – and winning 5 awards, including ‘Most Eco-Friendly Company’, and ‘Best Marketing Strategy’. In addition to this I have a part-time job in retail, having been working at the Leicester Superdrug store as a Sales Adviser since November 2013, I have gained great communication skills, better time management and have had the opportunity to build many new skills. One of my main roles here is to encourage add-on sales to customers, inform them of deals they could benefit from and interact with them to understand what they looking for. From all of these my personal skills have greatly improved, bringing my confidence with them, which I can now use to apply in other areas of life at any point. I enjoy working alongside my studies, as it gives me the chance to meet many new people, something which I enjoy doing. Whilst I am not studying or working, I like to exercise in my spare time, being a regular at my local gym, something which I am keen to continue at University. I look forwards to the opportunity of the University lifestyle, further scientific study, and the long-term benefits this will bring me. I am keen to tackle the challenges this degree may bring with it, and look forwards to studying at your University.
