I shadowed at a solicitors firm which informed me about interactions between clients and solicitors. I gained further knowledge of how a solicitor must communicate effectively with clients ensuring they have full understanding of the procedures. This experience led me to organise work experience during the Christmas holidays at another law firm to add to my understanding of law. I attended a Pre-Law course where I had to pay attention to detail taking many points into …show more content…
consideration to make a decision. During this course I observed a mock trial and how evidence would be collected in the lead up to the trial.
The subjects I am studying provide me with various skills that I will need in order to study for a degree in law which I can use later when practising law.
By studying biology I gained skills to interpret relevant information from a set of data. I can apply my existing knowledge to a new scenario in order to solve problems. In English Language, I looked at how language differs depending on the tone of the conversation and how a person’s idiolect can be affected by many factors. I have developed my writing skills whilst also presenting clear and logical arguments. Through Media Studies I gained an understanding of the different influences the media has on the public, and how there are different regulations in place to control certain aspects of the
media.
I play the piano and achieved a merit in grade 2. I attained a merit at grade 6 in Carnatic singing after which I joined my school choir for much of my secondary education. I enjoy keeping fit and often organise runs for my peers and I. I like baking, including trying new recipes and developing them to suit my preference. I also volunteer at my local library helping young children with reading and homework.
I have taken part in activities both in and outside of school developing my interpersonal skills. I participated in NCS with The Challenge and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, which involved me working and living with individuals from different walks of life, functioning both as a leader and as part of a team helping me to form firm relationships. This developed my communication, teamwork and organisational skills all of which I will use during my study of law. I have received awards such as the Head Teachers Award after organising charity events for causes such as the nuclear disaster in Fukushima. My academic excellence was recognised when I received Student of the year for English Language showing my high standard of work and contributions in lessons. Last year I took on the role of mentoring a student in a younger year group. In addition I am a valued member of the school council where I attend monthly meetings voicing the concerns of my peers to the school community.
From studying law I hope to expand my skills in order to become a successful solicitor. I look forward to life as a law undergraduate and intend to involve myself in many co-curricular activities. I believe that many areas in law are relevant to daily life however this is not known by the majority of individuals. I hope that by studying law, I can influence this and inform others of the importance of knowing basic laws and what rights we have as citizens.
