Reflective Essay On My Writing Style
I feel the material I have learned in this course has qualified me to have met the WST requirement. When I initially started this course I felt like my writing was about average, not weak, not strong. My ideas about writing were relatively simplified, and my understanding of different writing styles and concepts were quite general. However, throughout each assignment within this course, I felt my writing skill and understanding become significantly stronger.

The assignments that I feel most expanded my thought process were the assignments pertaining to ethos, logos, and pathos. My interpretation of writing styles were very black and white and I had not considered the complexity that could be involved, even within one piece of writing. Analyzing elements of the rhetorical triangle allowed me to examine how each element

One skill that I saw an improvement in throughout the course was the ability to evaluate a text. Prior to this class I would read a text and be able to decipher the subject matter or main points, but now at the end of the quarter, I have obtained the ability to not only be able to summarize, but to be able to analyze writing styles and determine reasoning for their usage. I have also seen a large improvement in my research skills. I’ve learned that choosing the best source for my writing does not have to be the source with the most information, but rather the source that best supports my argument and/or analysis. An additional skill that I’ve adapted assists in nearly any assignment you could write, which is the ability to revise with consideration to your audience. I generally would write an assignment without much consideration to who my audience was, but throughout this course I’ve learned that it is difficult to properly portray your stance if you don’t write to whom you are trying to portray it

The fundamental skills taught in the class while useful, were already known to me. Developing a thesis, organizing body paragraphs, and the closing statements of an essay are standard fare in most high school classes today. In contrast, what I gleaned from source documentation was incredibly valuable. It taught me to scrutinize where cited data comes from, weighing credibility and judging accuracy. These skills are quickly becoming important in an increasingly "wikipediaized" world. Both APA and MLA documentation formats were acceptable for the different types of essays.…

After a year of focused work in English 250, I feel that I have developed the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in multiple ways. My strengths as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the material we had this semester. We discussed several different aspects of the English language and spent a good amount of time this semester perfecting our ability to write rhetorical analyses. Doing so allowed us to focus a lot of our time on the WOVE method of communication and become better communicators.…

I have more weaknesses than strengths as a writer. I am not the best writer, I have always had struggle in English class. My personal strengths as a write are being able to understand the concept and being able to find evidence to support my claim/thesis. My personal weaknesses as a writer are editing and grammar. Occasionally, I use the wrong past tense and need improvement on sentence and paragraph structure. I tend to repeat myself a lot. Also, my weakness is time essays, I tend to be a slow writer and I do not work great under pressure.…

Before beginning this course, I knew that I lacked confidence within my writing. People say that you are your own worst critic, and I fully agree with that statement. My writing was not terrible in some aspects, but I knew that it needed to be improved upon. I lacked the experience because writing was not something that I did on a daily basis. As I progressed through English 1302, I realized that I was developing new skills that begun to transform the way I wrote. By receiving constructive criticism, I was able to learn more about myself as well as my abilities and limitations. This course not only helped me improve my writing skills, but it required me to become more self-motivated to complete my work as well as helped me manage my time more efficiently. English 1302 have allowed me to become a more adequate writer because I have learned valuable skills that I can utilize to perfect my writing ability.…

By utilizing four steps, I can effectively write an essay on the topics assigned during this program (Bethel, 2015). The first step is developing a clear point and is followed by supporting ideas. I plan to use quick notes to get my ideas down and make sure I need them. Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

According to Jessica Brody “Don’t be afraid to write crap because crap makes a great fertilizer”. Basically, that’s explaining what kind of writer I am, although my writing styles are very crappy, it will allow me to grow into a better writer. I feel that I am at a low standard at writing I don’t do very well. I am not confident with my writing skills at all it’s something I love and loathe, I see myself growing, I do have a lot to work on, I have high expectations for this seminar and, better writing will help me in the future.…

#1 I feel that my writing process is very good when it comes to finding ideas and brainstorming; However, I am knowledgeable that my organizations and grammar is not the best one. I think the two main factors behind my poor grammar are the fact that English is my third language, and that I am too lazy to read books, which is an incredible source to better my grammar. When I get an assignment to write, I just start writing and don’t think about my organization or grammar because that would make me stuck with all my papers. I rather get something written down first, then go back and correct it. It is obvious that I need to work on my grammar and my organization. Something else that I need to work on is when I put a comma in sentences because…

The thought of writing my paper is daunting; I never fully understand the task at hand. Everyone seems to understand writing better than me, and they seem to have the time to write. For me it is a tedious, pain staking process that last for endless hours and seems to never be as exquisite as I once imagined it to be. The writing process seems to be a straight forward list for everyone to follow but it is really just an idea of what it could be in a perfect, simple world. There are no two exact people; therefore, there are no two exact same writing processes. This process can come natural to some, but for most of us it is a pain staking process that takes several years to even come close to perfection. The writing process is an irritating way to write and because of this it is hard for me to find an exact, never changing writing process.…

In the past month, this class has significantly improved both my writing style and writing process. First, I have learned a few improvement to my overall APA format presentation. I have dialed in how to correctly cite sources without using a source generator. This is useful not only because it is crucial to know for any serious writing assignment, but also for any papers I may write that are not for college credit. If a source generator is unavailable, or I have to cite a source correctly without internet access, it is a need to know. I’m being completely honest here. I tend to learn rather than simply passing a class; as a degree on paper means very little if you don’t gain and retain the knowledge from it.…

Before taking this class, I had little to no interest in poetry. One of the reasons is that it was hard for me to understand its language and writing style. Writing for me requires a lot of time, because I need to think about the development of the essay. Although making an outline before writing a draft is helpful, I find it difficult to follow an outline, so I rather do brainstorming and freewriting for my first draft. Frankly, learning about poetry and drama was a challenge, and it change the way I approach any piece of artwork such as song, movie, drama, poem, and any novel in general. The literary elements helps me to further understand the underlying message the art piece. Discussing about the readings with my class was insightful experience,…

Writing for me always was a problem. When I was in fifth grade I was in Cuba, at that time is when teacher teach you how to write essay, and how to put a comma splice. I never learned the correct form of using grammar, verb, adverb, conjunction, because I came to the United State. When I started the school here I had to learn English first, so I really didn’t focus on how to write properly. Middle school for me was hard with the writing stuff. I didn’t know how to write properly so my English teacher always was sending notes to my parent “that I wasn’t doing well with my writing “. And it was not a problem of language, it just was a problem that I didn’t know how to write a perfect paragraph or the conjugation of words. I start high…
