Reflection On My Writing Style
In the past month, this class has significantly improved both my writing style and writing process. First, I have learned a few improvement to my overall APA format presentation. I have dialed in how to correctly cite sources without using a source generator. This is useful not only because it is crucial to know for any serious writing assignment, but also for any papers I may write that are not for college credit. If a source generator is unavailable, or I have to cite a source correctly without internet access, it is a need to know. I’m being completely honest here. I tend to learn rather than simply passing a class; as a degree on paper means very little if you don’t gain and retain the knowledge from it.
Second, my discovery phase has dramatically improved. In the reading and assignments, I learned to not only take notes a bit more, but also different strategies for brainstorming and connecting useful information to a main idea. Although simple words are used during this phase, it gives me a foundation to build off of and

I have found sometimes I use a semicolon in the wrong way. However, others seem to avoid them,. In my opinion, this makes their writing either too choppy, or a bit of a drag on. I also could develop my word choice.
As for future students, my main advice would be time management. I understand it is difficult, as many of us have much going on in both our personal and professional lives, but read the chapters early in the week. Second, take notes! There is a major difference between studying and simple reading. You can retain the information more effectively, and you can also refer back to your notes.
Thank you for a meaningful class Professor McMurry, I wish both you and your future students the very best! You have improved my skills, although I do have some further adjustments to make in grammar and other areas. I appreciate the knowledge I have gained throughout the

The fundamental skills taught in the class while useful, were already known to me. Developing a thesis, organizing body paragraphs, and the closing statements of an essay are standard fare in most high school classes today. In contrast, what I gleaned from source documentation was incredibly valuable. It taught me to scrutinize where cited data comes from, weighing credibility and judging accuracy. These skills are quickly becoming important in an increasingly "wikipediaized" world. Both APA and MLA documentation formats were acceptable for the different types of essays.…

It is easy to cram information just for test time but since we are actually writing how we feel on the subject matter, we have no choice but to have a complete and thorough understanding of the material. The importance of grasping this APA style concept and implementing it into our coursework is imperative. First and foremost we should always give credit to the source and offer them the recognition they deserve. Bethel frowns upon any form of plagiarism and can ultimately lead to the student being removed from the program. Using this style will ingrain a sense of integrity and awareness in our writing making it one of our strengths.…

I have more weaknesses than strengths as a writer. I am not the best writer, I have always had struggle in English class. My personal strengths as a write are being able to understand the concept and being able to find evidence to support my claim/thesis. My personal weaknesses as a writer are editing and grammar. Occasionally, I use the wrong past tense and need improvement on sentence and paragraph structure. I tend to repeat myself a lot. Also, my weakness is time essays, I tend to be a slow writer and I do not work great under pressure.…

In closing, Anderson mentions how the use of the semi colon will likely only survive in ways that are simple and are open to interpretation. As well, she highlights that it’s the uses of the semi colon that are argued. The use of the semicolon in things such as dictionaries and bibliographies are not widely discussed. However, with cultural shifts in language, any doubt or concerns surrounding the use and purpose of a semi colon is becoming an issue of the past. To conclude, Anderson and a number of other writers believe that the semicolon is a useless form of punctuation in modern day…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

I now have a more efficient system of planning and write multiple drafts before I feel at ease with submitting an assignment. Not only that, I now feel confident when writing papers and am able to complete assignments with little or no writers block. Although, writing in college has not been the easiest. It took me a while to transition to this level of writing and took a lot of hard work to get to where I am at now. Sometimes, I find myself over reviewing an assignment before I actually turn it in. Not that this is bad, but at times it takes me longer to submit an assignment than it…

This course truly helped my comprehension of specific parts of writing that I had never caught on to before. I feel that I can now express my thoughts much more successfully. In the future, my essay papers will be far more grounded because of the new composition methodologies or strategies learned here. I am more confident about writing effectively in future college classes after taking this class. I’ve learned to use different words, phrases, or statements to use other times that will best suit my style of writing. This semester has been one that was, unquestionably, a learning and educational experience for…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

I feel the material I have learned in this course has qualified me to have met the WST requirement. When I initially started this course I felt like my writing was about average, not weak, not strong. My ideas about writing were relatively simplified, and my understanding of different writing styles and concepts were quite general. However, throughout each assignment within this course, I felt my writing skill and understanding become significantly stronger.…

    My Writing Style Analysis

The Nature of a person's writing style can sometimes show more about an individual then the words they actually write, the poetic twists in sentence flow or the professional structure of their grammar. Writing styles are as unique as fingerprints and to define them can be as arduous as mastering the skills required to properly form one. In the quest to define my own style I discovered a detail that I have determined encapsulates the style with which I write; I write with passion. When I say I am a passionate writer I don't mean that I love to write but more that my level of personal affection toward the subject I am writing on directly affects the emotional nature I write in. In other words, I write more expressively and artistically the…

I always got good grades in English back in high school, but I was a student of the digital age so computers were always my backbone. They have document outlines for pretty much everything (essays, journals, letters etc.). Spelling and grammar check also play big roles in my writing today. I have to admit that if these tools were no longer available to me, and I had to depend on just paper and pen alone, I would have a rough time with my writing. As a matter of fact I used spelling and grammar check about ten times up to this point.…
