I was extremely nervous about having others review and critic my writing. That was the hardest part of this class for me. The comments they provided were helpful and made sense. I learned to recognize passive voice a little better and to vary the length of my sentences. My sentences are choppy and I sometimes repeat myself in other parts of my paper. I think the main issue I have is transition and vocabulary. I would like to transition from one sentence to another better. Even one paragraph to another. The books were helpful in giving me ideas on how to do that. I would like my writing to flow better.
I would also like to work on my vocabulary. I was doing it wrong the entire time. I thought using bigger words or what I thought were more descriptive words would be better and it wasn’t. The charts that showed what words to use and not to use made me realize I was wrong all along. In this class, I started using the thesaurus to replace the common words that could be better. That has helped me and I have expanded my witting vocabulary a bit more. I want to continue working on that.
For me, writing is difficult and complex. I’ve always been afraid of it and don’t think that will change. There are so many rules to follow and books to read that will help. I’ve learned a lot from this class and at least I can say I’ve learned how to spot mistakes and how to improve them. I will never be a perfect writer but at least I have a little more confidence
