Why Is Animal Testing Wrong
Each year in the United States, an estimated 70 million animals are harmed and/or killed due to animals testing. Animal testing is the use of animals in biological, medical, and psychological studies. Repeated trials are conducted during animal testing while high doses of medicine are given to acquire a lethal effect. Animals do not get many of the same diseases as humans do, such as Parkinson’s disease, types of heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, HIV, or schizophrenia. First, animals' rights are violated when used in scientific research testing. The animals used during testing are injected with diseases they would not normally contract. The scientists force feed these animals chemicals, conduct repeated surgeries on them and implant wires into their brains. Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside cages in labs across the world. Animals cannot voice their opinions or choices regarding to the tests they are being put through. They suffer in pain, only able to sit in their cages and wait, in fear, for the next experiment to begin. Animals tend to react differently to drugs than humans. Hundreds of thousands of people die from drugs that have worked on the animals in labs. Vioxx is a drug used to …show more content…
Vivisection is the practice of cutting into live animals or dissecting the bodies of animals. In research and testing, animals are put through experiments that can include everything from testing new drugs to infecting with diseases, burning skin, causing brain damage, implanting electrodes into the brain, maiming, blinding, and other invasive procedures. Animals are used as tools for research. In 2009, an undercover investigation revealed monkeys frantically spinning around in their cages, biting open wounds and ripping out their own hair, all because of the distress they must endure during

Animal testing, also known as animal experimentation, or in vivo testing, often uses non-human animals in experiments to test the safety of products and has been a topic of heated debate for decades. Although some research uses animals only for natural behaviors observation, F. Barbara Orlans claimed in her book, In the Name of Science: Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, that more than sixty percent of all animals used in animal testing suffer from experiment procedure or even get killed in biomedical research and product-safety testing. On the one hand, successful animal testing can lead to medical cures and treatments for human beings, on the other hand, opponents are doubting the reliability of animal…

Animal testing, is also known as animal experiments in the act of using non-human animals in research, to develop projects or scientific experiments. Statistics show that each year, there are millions of animals such as cats, dogs, mice, rats, ferret, hamsters and monkeys that experience mental and physical torture due to scientific research. Although most people agree that animal testing is horrible and cruel, there are few who this is it necessary to find new medicines. During the experiments, the animals are forced to inhale or sallow large amounts of test substances. Which are often found to be poisonous and toxic. The largest concern, is that animals are being used in experiments and not humans. Meaning that the results might or might not be useful for all the humans. Million of animals are suffering from poor conditions of living, and then to…

As a result of this, nine out of every ten trial medicines that look safe and appear to be effective on animals, fail when they are given to humans. Because animals don’t react the same way as humans, not only do the failed tests delay medical progress, but also they are a waste of animal’s lives, and a waste of money that is spent into the research and tests. Animals have different anatomic, cellular, and metabolic structures than humans have. If a new product is passed just because it is safe on animals and isn’t on humans, that could be a very dangerous situation. One instance when this occurred was in 1950 when a sleeping pill worked on animals but when given to humans it caused 10,000 babies to be born with severe birth defects. Another time, a drug for arthritis was safe on mice but when administered to humans caused 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths. Animal testing can make researchers oversea potential cures and treatments. Some substances that are harmful to animals, are helpful to humans. For example, aspirin is dangerous to some animals. Arthur Allen says, “A source of human suffering may be the dozens of promising drugs that get shelved when they cause problems in animals that may not be relevant for humans.” (“Of Mice or Men: The Problems with Animal Testing”). Of all the medicines that pass animal trials and are ready for human…

Animal testing and experimentation in laboratories is always the form of animal cruelty that touches many hearts. This refers to animals being used in scientific experiments, such as medical, pharmaceutical, and commercial testing. These tests can be very dangerous for animals to partake; many animals are tortured and even killed in these procedures. It is estimated that over 70 million animals are tortured and killed in U.S. laboratories annually. This number has decreased over years due to stricter controls, scientific advances, and higher…

There are a lot of bad things that happen in this world and Animal Testing is one of them. Doctors,Scientists and other people test on these animals everyday. In my opinion there should be no animal testing at all. It is cruel. Right now there are millions of animals sitting in cold cages waiting for their next painful procedure. The stress, sterility and boredom causes them to develop neurotic behaviors such as, biting themselves and running around in circles. Most of these animals are killed after the testing because there is no possible way for them to live after this has happened. More than 100 million animals suffer this torture. Exact numbers have not been found, in rats, mice, birds, and cold blooded animals take up about 90 percent.…

In many cases, animals are used in order to make sure that a certain product will have no negative side affects on humans. Animals have been used for several decades in experiments to make sure that it is safe for humans to use. One of the biggest controversies in all areas of scientific research today centers on the ethics of animal testing. However, this issue has raised a number of questions relating to human ethics. In the past, according to Michael Allen Fox, “several plans have been introduced for organizations that continuously rely on animals for testing purposes, but no plans have worked so far” (Fox). Animal testing should not be done in a manner as it is presently being done. Not only is it unethical and cruel, but also organizations are using animals in their laboratories for profit purposes and are abusing the rights they have to experiment on these animals. They…

Each year, millions of animals suffer and die in the process of inhumane testing for the purposes of drug and chemical research, and medical experiments and training exercises. Animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, and mice are force fed harmful substances that are infected with lethal viruses causing reactions like brain damage, strokes, and heart attacks. Not only are these experiments painful to the animals and sometimes fatal, but also they fail to accurately reflect human reactions and are not required by the FDA.…

Animal testing has been a debate for 30 years as the practice raises ethical and moral questions. Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in the United States ("Experiments on Animals: Overview”). Animal testing is the procedure where animals are used for testing of drugs, cosmetic, food, and chemical testing. It is done before human trials take place so that researchers and scientists can modify the product before asking human testers to try it. With the current technology, the debate has shifted to not using animals to test any product.…

First, some experiments on animals are very cruel and inhumane. Some places force animals into doing things that they don’t want to do. Sometimes they force feed the animals being experimented on. Some of the animals eyelids are forced open with clips, sometimes for days. Despite all of this cruelty, not a single disease has been cured through medical testing on animals. The overall adult cancer rate has risen in the past 40 years and a fatal heart attack strikes a person every 45 seconds. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that 70-80% of the common diseases killing British people are preventable with a responsible diet and lifestyle. Drug testing on animals is inaccurate and does not benefit humans or animals at all. Animals including, dogs, cats, mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rhesus monkeys, imported primates, owls, deer, sheep, llama, and cattle are commonly used for vivisection. Vivisection is the medical term for the practice of experimenting on animals.…

I have always felt strongly about animal rights, and cruelty to animals, so I decided to do my paper on something less talked about and often avoided, which is animal vivisection in other words animal testing. Animal testing, also known as animal experiments is the act of using non-human animals in research, development projects or scientific experiments. Statistics reveal that, each year millions of animals such as dogs, cats, rats, mice, ferrets, hamsters and monkeys experience physical and mental torture due to scientific practices. Although some believe that these experiments are necessary on grounds of advancement of medicine, most people believe that these experiments are cruel, unethical barbaric and outdated. One of the biggest disadvantages identified in animal testing is the harming, confinement and infliction of pain. During the experiments, the animals used are forced to inhale or swallow vast amounts of test substances, which are often toxic and poisonous. Additionally, animals are used in the experiments and not human beings. This means that any results derived from the tests might or might not be useful to the humans. If the results obtained are termed useless, then for no reason, the animal would have suffered.…
