It is important to make sure that all equipment is functioning properly and is in good condition before beginning the transfer. For Example: If you were going to be transferring a patient to a wheelchair and had forgotten to put the brakes on, the chair could slide out from beneath the client as the client is attempting to sit down and they could potentially slip and fall. It is also important to explain the transfer process so that the patient understands what you are doing and how they can help such as being able to keep their chins tucked in and keeping their hands on their chest.
