During the 2016 Presidential election, Hillary spent $1,1919 million and President Trump spent $646.8 million. These astonishingly high numbers have and will increase throughout the years, yet many candidates are able to raise and spend that amount of money. The fact is that the money raised does not come from voters or the average citizen. The funding comes for small interest group, business and corporations that invest and fund presidential and congressional elections. This is problematic because the small interest groups that donate and fund these campaigns are interested in supporting candidates that will return the favor and support them as they write legislation. For example John McCaine is greatly supported by the NRA and has reportedly received over $7,740,521 from the N.R.A(in text citation). N.R.A has funded directly to McCaine’s campaign and has spends on behalf of candidates from the N.R.A Political Action Commities and the Social Walfarem arm, which do not have to be disclosed to the public nor the federal government(in text citation). Support from a powerful interest group can partially explain senator McCaine’s view on gun regulation. McCaine has openly stated that he “recognizes the right of individual, law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms (in text citation).” He also takes pride in that fact that he “fought to shield gun manufactures from frivolous lawsuits (in text citation)”. Whether or not McCaine’s thoughts on gun regulation are true is not important. McCaine is supported and was elected through the help of an interest group, therefore his loyalty and responsibility is to them. His position on issues and bills should reflect the position and views of those who have directly supported him in his campaign. This shows that small interest groups and
