Why college education is important to me”
Richard Alyn Thompson II
My full name is Richard Alyn Thompson II. I was born on the 16th day of August in 1965. The child of Carol and Richard Thompson, both of whom are now deceased. My parents were divorced when I was young and I never really knew my father or my father's family. I have one sister who is younger then me. I was the first member of my family to graduate from High School in over one hundred (100) years. To my knowledge no other member of my family has ever attended college and definitely none of them have graduated from a College, traditional or otherwise. Not having a College Education has denied me a chance for the career path that I have dreamed about my entire life. The invention of the internet and online colleges now has opened doors so that over time, through dedication, and hard work, I may finally achieve both a College Degree and a chance to acquire the career that in the past I have only been able to dream about. I was the first in my family to graduate from High School for the sole reason of only to prove that I could do it. Now I am offered the opportunity to become the first College graduate in my family. If for no other reason just to prove my mother wrong, and that my life can mean something. I have made both several bad choices, and good choices over the 48 years of my life. My First good choice over the years was, going back to High School and finishing it when I dropped out. My best good choice is my wife, who is supportive of me going to school and finding a chance at my dream job. My third best choice in life is now finally getting the willpower, to set into effect both the will and the desire, to obtain the goals that I once thought I could only be a dream of in my life. I may not be an Excellent student, I may not be the average traditional student (Someone who just finished High School last semester) However I will be a student who will put out any, and all effort(s) he can to achieve the goals that I have set forth. I will finish College. I will finish with the best grades that I am capable of. I will go on even if it is to only to an online school (Most states don't accept this for becoming an Attorney) and get my Doctorate in Law, so that someday, somewhere I can take and pass the Bar Exam, and then become a Lawyer
