When he came into presidency the great depression hit America and he led the Americans through and out of it. Even though the New Deal that FDR created wasn't the reason why the great depression ended it contributed to it. He gave a speech which included his famous quote, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself", that
gave the Americans a sense of hope that the depression will end and soon.
He ended World War II. He did it through creating the Lend and Lease Act which would aid Britain in the war with violating the Neutrality Act. The passing the Lend and Lease Act aided the Allies with $50 billion in goods. With the aid of the Allies, America forced the Germans to surrender which ended WWII.
He created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which gave Americans a sense of security. The FDIC made any potential damage to the United States economy by insuring deposits made to banks and other financial institutions less severe. The way that it did that was by insuring everybody who deposited their money in the banks. They were insured with up to $250,000 if the banks were ever to crash again. The FDIC gave depositors their confidence in banks again. The FDIC still exists to today.
Franklin D. Roosevelt in my opinion is the best President we've had so far. He led America and its citizens through and out of the great depression. He was a major reason why America won WWII. Also he helped Americans restore their confidence in banks through the FDIC. Those are the reasons why I think that FDR was the best president we've ever had.
