Giuliano’s reasoning for the massacre was speculated to be involved with the Minister of Interior, Mario Scelba; however, he stated that he acted alone and that there was no one behind him. He also stated that he did not intend to kill the people, rather just shoot above their heads; however, this can easily be displaced as a lie, for the sheer number of bullets that were fired. Following this event, the Christian Democrats started gaining more power which caused Giuliano to lose support because he was a more radical anti-communist while the Christian Democrats were just an opposing political force. As the Christian Democrats gain power through legal/moral ways, this eliminated any need for the immoral ways that Giuliano used to gain power and eliminate communist forces/opposition. In the end Giuliano was ultimately killed while he was sleeping in bed, most likely, by his cousin and Lieutenant Gaspare Pisciotta. It is theorized that Pisciotta was told to kill Giuliano by Scelba, most likely due to Giuliano having claimed that he had information against Scelba.
