When the activity was first assigned each member of the group was assigned a different part of the assignment. For, my part in the assignment I was assigned to complete the evaluation tool. The other three members were assigned one of the other three parts left in the activity. When, it came to deciding the activity we each came up with an idea, but then we eventually decided that we would do softball. After that, during the process there were group meetings held to figure the best way for the activity to be run, and how each member was doing with their part of the assignment. I was a little confused with the fact that I wasn’t assigned more work to do. In my opinion, I felt that I could’ve done more than just the evaluation tool I wanted to contribute more to the group. Beyond that, it confused me that during the activity, it took us a while to decide to let each batter have a runner with and…
The original stage of team building is the forming stage. In this stage our group was not exactly sure what this project would entail and what work was ahead of us. We were all polite and on our best behavior making contact with the rest of the group. There was a positive and high expectation that we would be successful and develop an outstanding service learning project. In this stage our roles were not clearly defined. This lead to us mostly working independently and gaining an understanding for the project and what to expect for ourselves.…
From the reasons showed by Kyle, grammar is really important in business. Not only does it leave the first impression of a company on the mass, but also it shows an employee’s sense to details. With the development of modern society, the competition among companies is more and more fierce. One detail could help a company to differentiate from others and make profits. To adapt to the intense competition, companies needs to recruit those who are qualified in skills and in details.…
What worked well for us was taking control of the assignment and the "get-it-done" attitude we adopted once we began communicating. We were able to assign team members different parts to work on, and each was posted in time and was put together well. The best was when one person took all the postings and as able to put it all together and edit the project.…
Kimberly Tan, the Author of “Why Do We Care About Grammar?” explains the usage and value of grammar. Tan states in her opinion about grammar that “people need to realize that grammar is there for the sole purpose of clarity and that it has no value outside of what it attempts to convey” (Tan). Tan argues that grammar should not have a set of concrete rules and that grammar is not the important part in the end, it is the content that is being expressed that truly matters. I personally agree with what Tan has said about grammar. Grammar should be used more so for clarification when writing an essay, we should be focusing more on the meaning of the essay than grammar.…
I remember a time in school when we had to do a project with a team of classmates. We were supposed to come up with an idea for a business and set up everything about the business such as the name, type of business, how it would be managed and so on. There were four students in the group and we were able to get many different ideas about what type of business we should have and what the names would be. Each person was able to be in charge of different parts of assignment, and that way no one was required to do a large amount of work in a set time. Although we did get an A, there were some failures as well. Some students in the group were more willing to give input and weren’t afraid to speak up about their ideas. Others had to be pushed for ideas and tended to go along with what the others thought was a good decision even if they might not have agreed. Even when it was time to divvy of the work, there were discrepancies. I particularly didn’t like the idea of giving each person something different to do, only because some in the group didn’t really care about the project as much as others and I felt they weren’t trying their best on their part. It might have been better in my opinion to work…
The Health Fair Presentation project was one of my favorite assignments so far in my college career. I have never really been a fan of group projects because there is rarely an even work distribution; and being the student that I am, I usually end up doing the most work. However, this was not the case in my groups project. We all did a fairly even amount of work. Our group started out with four people, which is already a smaller group compared to some other, and one student dropped the course half way into the project so we ended up doing our project in a group of three. There were five jobs to split up and we all picked up the slack to make sure the project was done on time, and done well.…
When "The Nation's Report Card: Writing 2011" was published in 2012 only 24 percent of eighth and 12th graders were proficient in writing. That percentage needs to be higher; here's why. Proper grammar can help you in many way; like getting a job. Many people judge others based on their grammar. Also, many employees are getting fired because of their poor grammar. Grammar is still relevant in the 21st century because you need it to make money, find love, and keep a…

How to divide the assignment up among group members was another issue the group had to overcome. Once we decided the part that each group member would complete, each member completed his or her part and submitted as his or her part of the final assignment. When a portion of the assignment was published, each group member would give their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on any changes that might need to be made. In order for this to work, all members agreed that critiques or criticism must be made in a positive manner.…
In John Updike’s “A & P” Sammy, the main character of the story encounters three young girls who come into his grocery store. They are dressed for a day at the beach, not shopping. “The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green two-piece. She was a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet broad soft-looking can with those two crescents of white just under it, where the sun never seems to hit, at the top of the backs of her legs.” (Updike) Sammy goes on to say the girls are barefoot and in describing another of the girls says the straps on her swimsuit are down. Their apparel gives them some unintended attention. Lengel, the A & P manager, confronts the three girls, reminding them they are not at the beach. The girls try to defend themselves stating the reason they are in the store is to pick up one item for one of the girls’ mothers. Lengel does not care and tells the girls it does not matter why they are in the store but they need to be decent when they came in to do any sort of shopping. Sammy does not like the way Lengel made a scene and embarrassed the girls. He feels he must follow his heart and stand up for the three girls by quitting his job. In my life, exploring the option of homeschooling my three children, I feel there could be unintended negative consequences as well. Weighing the pros and cons of the decision is a heavy task, but in the end I must do what is right for my family despite outside obstacles, just as Sammy had to do what he felt was right. Sadly, doing what is right for you often times is rejected by main stream society and can therefore bring uphill challenges that accompany your decision.…
People’s grammar should be judged by the position they are applying for versus all the jobs in general. In Kyle Wiens “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why.” Wiens argues that if someone doesn’t have good grammar then they also don’t pay attention to detail. But in John McWhorter’s article “Good Applicants with Bad Grammar,” he believes differently than Wiens. McWhorter believes that each person doesn’t have to have good grammar for every job. For example, I used to work at subway I always had to pay attention to how many veggies I was putting on and the amount of meat and so where in the sandwich making process was good grammar required, but I did pay attention to detail which got the job done. So Wiens wasn’t completely correct in his argument that poor grammar also means people don’t pay attention to detail. I agree with McWhorter that grammar should be based on the certain job you with to have, and each person whether they have good grammar or not should still be given a fair shot in an interview.…
The most important reason for the use of correct grammar, punctuation and spelling is to make sure that the person/company receiving the information is able to read it accurately. It is also very important as any documents created with imperfections such as spelling and grammar can look unprofesional and reflect negatively on the company.…
One of the most valuable strength of teamwork is that it helps to complete work faster. Because large task can be broken down into smaller assignments so task should be split up. Smaller tasks also require less time and brain power so they don’t waste your time when working or studing. You will be unforgettably successful in making the event or activity for each member of the team. Work distributing not only reduces each individual burden, but also increases responsibility and better brainstorming.…
As a group we decided to separate the chapters and turn a group project into individual assignments providing each member with an equal amount of responsibility.…
