Quotation Response

“These days I live in three worlds: my dreams, the experiences of my new life, which trigger memories from the past” (20).
This quote is important because Ishmael Beah is still haunted by nightmares of his time fighting the war. I chose this because it is important to know that his new life is unfamiliar to him.

“Things changed rapidly in a matter of seconds and no one had any control over anything. We had yet to learn these things and implement survival tactics, which was what it came down to” (29).
This quote is important because Beah knows that the rebels have forced him and others to resort to survival tactics. I chose this quote because Beah’s life has been turned upside down and he has to learn fast to be able to survive the incoming changes.

“When I was very little, my father used to say, ‘if you are alive, there is hope for a better day and something good to happen. If there is nothing good left in the destiny of a person, he or she will die’” (54).
This quote is important because it show that Beah is able to hold on to his previous life. I chose this quote because his father’s words are helping him continue on in life.

“Even in the middle of the madness there remained that true and natural beauty, and it took my mind away from my current situation as I marveled at this sight” (59).
This quote is important because even in the middle of a war, they can still recognize natural beauty. I chose this quote because it reminds me of when I first discover something and I am taken back by the beauty of it.

“One of the unsettling things about my journey, mentally, physically and emotionally, was that I wasn’t sure when or where it was going to end” (69).
This quote is important because this shows the multiple sides of damage that is caused by a civil war. I chose this quote because it is showing the suffering that a war causes.

“That morning we thanked the men who helped us bury Saidu” (87).

I choose this quote because I like the way it was written. The choppy, quick sentences show a real sense of urgency. With all leading up to this quote, you would expect for it to be some big ordeal or bad news. And it was. The way Mark was quick and to the point showed that something was wrong and it helped built tension in the chapter. Also, Alas Babylon ending his message gave meaning to the title. After seeing that, I knew that something big was about to happen. It also gave meaning to the title of the book.…

This quote is important because it allows me to understand the similar perspective that Matthew Antoine and Grant Wiggins have on what it is like for A black man in the south. Matthew seemed to have regretted staying in the south and not being anything or anybody there. Grant however, struggles with whether or not to stay or escape his roots and home. Both of the men appear to be bitter and cynical of the way they are treated unfairly. This Piece of advice was given to grant by his old teacher, before he died.…

This quotation is said by the narrator after Bilbo Baggins escape from the goblins in the other edge of the Mystery mountain. The quotation is important in revealing Bilbo´s cowardly and loyalty to his friends. Bilbo is wondering if go back to get his friends in this case “whether he ought not” contrast his cowardly and his loyalty. Bilbo felt more likely that it is his obligation as their friend and burglar of the group to “turn back” and save them as”his duty”. The obligation connects Bilbo´s loyalty to his friends even very “miserable he felt it.” He felt difficult and scare, but even that he was thinking about going back into the “horrible tunnel ” again in order to save them. His loyalty personality and brain exceed the cowardly and force…

As we discussed in class, Winston Churchill has made many pivotal decisions that have resulted in failure. In January of 1915, he sent over 100 ships to set sail for one of the largest invasions, but it failed miserably. It resulted in the deaths of 56,000 allied troops and nearly 200,000 were either missing or injured. Churchill was ordered to resign but after a long break he returns to the government, stronger than ever. He never lost his enthusiasm even when he was asked to leave, and because of that he became even more successful. To go along with the historical significance of this quote, there is also an appreciable personal significance. This quote can be applied to anyone's life. It shows how everyone should persevere and never give up. Also that everyone should try their hardest and never lose faith, just as Churchill…

I think this quote is really showing how even in times of trouble or in times where you are afraid there has to be someplace where you can fit in time for yourself. You need to have time to be content to be on your full game or to be completely focused. Polestar you Bradley has been very eager to find her parents. Even in times of trouble or Radley did not know where her parents were she found ways to be content and at peace. I think this quote is important because it's a thing sample for our generation. We need times of content in times of where in trouble. That's why think this stuck out to me so…

This quote is a representation of several different personality traits that can be classified simply by who the characters are like. The author is someone who creates a variety of characters who are all similar to himself, and one another. This could suggest several different things about the character and qualities of the author, one of which is ignorance, which is present in the author as a result of the similarity of his characters. The nearly identical protagonists also help to portray the idea that the author is not only ignorant in certain situations but that he is ignorant of the various kinds of people, cultures, and languages, that exist throughout the world. The author lives,…
