Honor codes are what withhold a school and its students to a friendly and manageable environment. It is the essence of the academic honor code in high school and universities, which puts students into the correct mindset when having those thoughts of wrongdoing. The code is not necessary in the right case. It is all up to the student’s choice to fulfill their job as students and doing what is right in each and every situation. Most universities have and make their students follow an academic honor code. The University of Notre Dame sorts their academic honor code into many sections and parts. They include the students’ responsibilities, attempt of violation, and honesty committees (Dame).
Students who attend a high school or university always tend to conform to be under the control of the honor code established in their school. Some colleges don’t really have this problem as much and that is because they have a honor code incorporated into their system and that factor is key. Cheating with students has become a massive problem and it is seen that it is completely out of hand by this point. That statement is not true because many colleges have little to no cheating at all. A study done in 1999 by McCabe and Trevino, along with Kenneth D. Butterfield, found that schools with an integrated honor code had a better performance than schools without an honor code. Although the honor code students had to deal with the same pressures from the outside world, they always turned to the honor code system when they are faced with a problem.
