An Honor Code is a great thing to have for students. It is a code where students are expected to not cheat and report others for cheating. It is a great thing to have for students because it holds them up to certain standards and shows what is expected of them. Having an honor code for Hotchkiss would improve the quality and integrity of its students. It isn't just enough having an honor code, it must be maintained and enforced. An honor code that isn't enforced would not be profitable for anyone. It isn't just enough to sign a piece of paper, although it is a good start, it should be enforced with appropriate…
The Rutgers University Academic Integrity Policy provides a set of comprehensive guidelines on the proper use of intellectual property in students’ academic work. It also provides for the adjudication of policy infringements and associated academic consequences for nonadherence. Additionally, ethics and integrity are stressed in the policy as faculty and students are encouraged to “foster a strong institutional culture of academic integrity.” To find out if and why students are behaving in accordance with the academic integrity policy, a survey was administered. The data gathered from the survey indicated that students’ reasons for following the policy depended on their morals. Rutgers university…
In the wake of numerous cheating scandals, such as those at the University of Virginia and Harvard, many people have began to question the effectiveness of honor codes (sources C, D). Honor codes can be defined as a set of rules implemented in a school that are based around morals that define both acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. While many feel as though such guidelines are necessary in maintaining a schools’ dignity, others believe that honor codes are impossible to enforce. Honor codes should not be enforced because they are too harsh, unrealistic, and put innocent students in uncomfortable social situations.…

Different levels of education consist of a variety of set expectations. In comparison to colleges, high schools don't nearly clarify the rules and regulations needed to be followed in order for students to achieve their academic goals. Many schools don't fully recognize importance of the honor code and ensure that it is maintained throughout every aspect of the students' life. An honor code should be enforced and established in Cypress Lakes high school in order to successfully prepare the students for their future.…

What does academic integrity mean? It can be defined as an honest and responsible pursuit of scholarship, on the other side of the spectrum, cheating is dishonest and irresponsible pursuit of scholarship. The importance of writing, both academically and professionally is to be able to communicate your thoughts properly to everyone whom you communicate with. I believe being able to write academically give you the foundation in which you are going to use when you write professionally. When you write professionally its important to be able to communicate to co-workers as well as potential clients. I feel they are both important in the sense they help you communicate to your peers, colleagues and everyone else in an effective manner through email, letters and corporate memos.…
Academic honor codes are simply an easy way for lazy people to get through post-secondary institutions. These honor codes discourage students from actually putting in the full effort in their education, which can seep over to their careers. In addition, students see that they really do not need to do all of the work in order to get good grades, and can skate through college, but they are not retaining the education they are paying thousands of dollars for. Honor codes address cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, multiple submissions, misrepresentation, and unfair advantages within colleges and universities. When a student is enrolled into one of these institutions, they are required to pledge to adhere to this honor code. This pledge…
Honor can be defined many ways and can’t be given one definition. In an article written by a journalist from New York The Sun, Shalin Punn about James Bowman and his book Honor: A History, he states about honor “the concept of honor has been subject to a "change in meaning," up to a point where the word has undergone a "virtual disappearance from the working vocabularies of English and other European languages” (Bowman). First he says that honor has changed so much that it can’t be defined.…
