I don’t know how many times I’ve seen kids, in their school uniforms, until the late hours of the night, just asking for change at train and bus stations for a variety of reasons. For them being able to get things in the now is important especially if their parents can’t provide the things they want. Wouldn’t school seem like a waste if you could be out there making money at that moment, to get the things that you want, but your family could not give you, either anytime soon or ever? I think the need to belong by having the same quality or type of things as your peers is a huge motivator for young people. I don’t think there is anything wrong with children being rewarded for hard work that will lead them to the right direction. I think the amounts mention in the NPR article may be excessive and providing a single type of incentive will have its downfalls because not everyone responds in the same fashion . I think providing both immediate and delayed reinforcement could prove to be beneficial. A delayed fund could be used to go to college and if the student ultimately chooses not to pursue higher education those funds will go back to the educational system or donated to a charity of the persons
