Considered to have the mesomorphic body type which is the assumed sign of a criminal, he was much bigger than children his age. Eventually, as he grew into his teen years he became more comfortable and sure of himself. He was now larger then most of his teen peers and considered a tough guy. You might have considered him a bully as a result of all his school yard brawls. Corbitt was known as a enforcer in his teen years and was never known to turn down a physical challenge. This information was based on statements from his former fellow classmates. Some sociologist or psychiatrists speculate this could begin to explain his reckless behavior that carried into his adult

I agree with the Knapp Commission in organizing a council to research corruption in our law enforcement, alongside other infringement. Subsequently, with the Knapp Commission motivation, it seems that it concentrates on arraigning those law enforcement officers that are sharing in criminal activities. Corruption was at its maximum in the police department. There were officers that were labeled as grass-eater and meat eaters. A grass eater was the least notice because they were involved in taking small bribes from the citizen who was avoiding receiving jail time. On the other hand, a meat eater is an officer that hustles on a regular base with the uses of threat or intimidation. During the investigation the Knapp Commission found officers were involved in such crime as gambling, narcotics, prostitution, construction, receiving payoff to ignore crimes in bars and Sabbath law to name a few (Dempsey & Forst, 1973).…

Duty and public interest are at the center of the ethics triangle. Mayor Burns breaks many of the key values listed as guidelines and the ethics triangle concepts. His duty/obligation to the public interest is questioned. His character is questioned. His principles are questioned, and his concerns for consequences are questioned. Mayor Burns’ feelings of obligation to his ex-students, now police officers, clouded his judgment. This covers the virtue-based classification. Mayor Burns was willing to repay them for their service, and the financial support they gave him during his campaign. This also covers the virtue and principle-based concepts because he uses this as a reason for his behavior, which is a reflection of his character.…

One night, Scout was playing with a little roly-poly on the step outside their house. Once Scout decides she is bored of playing with the little bug, she decides to kill it, but Jem stops her. Scout asks Jem why she cannot kill the bug and Jem claims that, “...they don’t bother you” (320). Jem knows that killing something that did no harm and was completely harmless is wrong, this is why he advises Scout to not kill the roly-poly. Once again, this roly-poly is another creature that symbolizes a mockingbird, innocent, harmless, and to Scout, a source of entertainment. The reason that Jem makes such a big deal about this situation is because he is still processing Tom Robinson’s death and all the injustice that Tom Robinson endured during his trials, so Jem really understands that killing is wrong, especially to something so innocent.…

    1. As suggested by Waldo’s essay, the advice about ethical behavior in the public office is a set of “maps” divided into 12 different obligations: to the Constitution, to Law, to Nation or Country, to Democracy, to Organizational-Bureaucratic, to Profession and Professionalism, to Family and Friends, to Self, to Middle-Range Collectives, to the Public Interest or General Welfare, to Humanity or the World and to Religion (or to God). The difference between Waldo’s views compared to those of Barnard, Bailey and Appleby is that they think “safeguards” can satisfy ethical behavior in the public office. I think that Waldo’s advice is better because he lays everything out in numerous categories so that nothing gets overlooked, which in my opinion makes thing flow better and does not leave as much room for flaws.…

Our society has become corrupt at each level, and the police force is no exception. While most officers are committed to maintaining honor and integrity in their service to the public, there will be crime or misconduct among both female and male officers (Gottschalk, 2011). Police officers should be upholding the image of sacrifice, dignity, and overall competency (Gottschalk, 2011). Unfortunately, corruption can happen and add distrust amongst the public toward the public service of police officers. These actions of misconduct can include oppression, racial profiling, physical or emotional abuse of power, overall mistreatment of citizens or prisoners in their care, extortion, misuse of information or perjury, and overall manipulation (Gottschalk, 2011).…

Ethical considerations could be a concern for law enforcement officers moving forward into the future. Officers obviously have a desire to be ethical and do their job with the utmost morale possible, however the dilemmas they face to catch criminals and remain as ethical as possible is difficult. Off duty behavior, brutality, and corruption are big concerns now and for the future. People who regulate the law often find themselves needing to bend or break the law. More often than not, their fellow law enforcement officers will treat them with a lighter punishment or give no punishment at all because of their association with the governing association (Writing, 2014)…

In the chapter of “Liability: What Should Be the Consequence of Unethical Conduct,” it argues from an ethical viewpoint that the double standard applied to the public officials is misleading and that it is necessary to disregard the social status when it comes to determining the consequences of equal wrongdoing. This tendency for the public to criticize and judge public officials harsher for their wrongdoings is often rationalized by the belief that “they should have known better.” In most ethical misconduct, most reasonable individual all know better whether the decision they are making…

Police corruption is a problem that has and will continue to affect us all, whether we are civilian or law enforcement officers. An examination of any newspapers or police-related publications on any given day will have an article about an officer that got busted committing some kind of illegal act. Since its beginnings, many aspects of it have changed, however, a lot of it remains and it seems to just keep growing. Even though being a policeman is one of the most commendable and honorable professions in society, there have been certain instances that demonstrate misconduct and corruption in terms of unethical violence, illegal drug abuse, bribery and unjustified arrests.…
