As stated earlier plastic bags are not only harmful to animals, but are harmful to the actual land around us! For example 10% of the debris on the u.s coastline is plastic bags. Unfortunately they do even more damage than that, such as getting stuck in trees, ponds, rivers, and clog up drains. There are even some in the Arctic Circle! Paper bags don’t even degrade nearly as fast as plastic. Energy is very important to life and using too much is not good. When making paper bags they use twice more energy than cloth. The production of paper bags uses three times the amount of water it takes to make plastic bags. According to some measures, paper bags generate 80 percent more solid waste in landfills.
In conclusion paper and plastic bags are bad for our environment, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another choice! Cloth bags are great, they are reusable, you don’t have to double them up for heavy objects, and they don’t harm the environment! They may be more expensive, but you can use them as much as you want.
