Poaching is the illegal practice of trespassing on another’s property to hunt. It has been illegal for hundreds of years, but it was during the Late Middle Ages that poaching became a punishable offense. As people illegally hunt certain animal species for profit or for the sport of it, more and more of these favored animals are becoming extinct, animals that are normally prey are increasing in population, and more vegetations are being eaten and destroyed. Most poaching is committed mostly in Africa and Asia, but it is hard to enforce the laws. This is largely due to the numbers of poacher to police. There are far more poachers than people to enforce the laws. The effects of poaching can be seen presently, but the major effects will be seen many generations to come. The zoo will become the only place to see certain animals than in their natural habitats. Poaching is not something that should be done to animals because of the end results. Criminals are making money from poaching endangered animals. These animals are being killed illegally by poachers for very selfish reasons. There are poachers who hunt just for the fun of it and/or to have a trophy on the wall or in middle of their room. The purpose is not to put food on the table. In fact, the carcass is left behind to decompose. The decomposition of the animal carcass can cause diseases. Of course, the flip of the coin would be poachers who hunt to sell parts of the animal in the black market. Elephants are hunted for their tusks; Tigers are valuable for their fur; and rhinoceros for their horn.
