The concept of presumed innocence is important because it helps protect citizens. This concept helps ensure that the people accused of a crime are not treated as convicted criminals until they have been proven guilty in a court of law. In addition, this helps to protect the rights of an individual to a fair trial.
Is it necessary?
I think this concept is very necessary. Without this concept, the individuals accused of a crime would not get justice, they can be locked up for long periods of time without the benefits of a trial date.

The movie has many conflicts of interest. R.K Sabich, the lead character, had a relationship with Carolyn Polhemus (the woman that was murdered) and he was in charge of her death investigation. Because this affair, he made bad decisions that incriminated him more. Raymond Horgan, the Prosecuting Attorney, who also had an affair with the deceased, used his power to help her in her career. Furthermore, the judge failed to preside a fair trial because he wanted the investigation for a certain “B” file to stop. He dismissed the case.
