Why Is Pride Important In Macbeth

Thought out history there has been different rulers who were power hungry and consumed by their pride. The Tragedy of Macbeth is no different. The story is set in 16th century Scotland. The story is centered around a Nobleman Macbeth who name Thane of Cawdor after kicking some serious butt on the battlefield. The story start with three creepy witches giving Macbeth his prophecy about about the future. These witches really get into Macbeth’s head and he attempts to control the future and bury the past. Macbeth attempts to control the future by eliminating all who stands in his way, and tries to bury the past in the same way. Shakespeare creates a theme of pride which leads people to make questionable decisions.
In The Tragedy of Macbeth Macbeth tries to control the future by eliminating all who stands in his way of Absolute power. The three witches profuse Macbeth’s prophecy to him, “First Witch- All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee. Thane of Glamis!
Second Witch- All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee. Thane of Cawdor!
Third Witch- All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!”
This is what got Macbeth trying to control his faith.
When someone tells you that you have a brighter future than you once thought this causes you to do all humanly possible to obtain all parts of it. For example after Duncan names his older son, Malcolm, the Prince of Cumberland, we see Macbeth begin to plot to control the future. “He says to himself, The prince of Cumberland! That is a step On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap,For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires;Let not light see my black and deep desires” (1.4.50-53). Macbeth knows that since now Malcolm is now Duncan’s official heir Malcolm will not inherit the the throne not Macbeth and to control the future he chooses to kill all who stand in his
way. In The “Tragedy of Macbeth’ Macbeth tries to bury the past by killing all who stood in his way. Macbeth did most of his killings to gain power but he also did his killings to stop the past from coming back to nip him in the butt. For example Macbeth tried to bury the past by killing Banquo because he is worried He knows to much and Banquo knows of the same prophecy as Macbeth does. “

As evident in “The Tragedy of Macbeth” Macbeth attempts to control the future by eliminating all who stands in his way and tries to bury the past by doing the same. “The Tragedy of Macbeth” developed a theme that pride leads people to make questionable decisions. Even thought this theme the major part of the part play Another reader might claim that pride does not lead people to make questionable decisions but pride motivates people to do more. But However my position is stronger, because pride creates greed which leads people to want more and go power crazy.
