stayed up until two a.m. working on a last minute essay assignment. Overall, I believe that the advantages of taking a standardized test for the student’s knowledge of their own skill set outweighs the disadvantage of them having a bad test day. In conclusion, I think standardized tests should be taken by schools for the students to better understand what they need to improve. Standardized test also can help out the teachers not just the students. Standardized tests scores can show the teachers what they need to elaborate on and spend more time on teaching the next year. If the teacher had an overall good grades my their students then that teacher may be rewarded by their school. The teacher could have more weight in discussions and decisions, and the teacher gets students that want to work hard for them. A negative thing about the test on teachers is so much pressure is put on the teacher to keep their scores up or to constantly improve them. That could almost be impossible if a new test is put out and their part of the test is extremely different then the years before and they did not go over the material the students are getting tested on. The idea that everything is about the test scores can greatly affect the teacher. It can affect their learning type which could affect if the students remember the information long-term or only for a year or two. I think that if the teachers do not compromise their teaching style by the test, then I think the test is very valuable to the teachers. Standardized tests are also very important to the schools. The tests show the school how they are compared to the rest of the country. The tests can show that they are on the top of the spectrum and they just need to maintain what they are going, or if they are on the bottom of the spectrum then they may to step back and look for the problem. The problem could simply be not covering the right material, letting the students slack off and not to their work, or even a teacher. The test can can show many great things about a school, and it can also show minor flaws that school needs to work on. Schools should want to take standardized tests to see how they are compared to the rest of the United States. I think that standardized testing brings in more positive information to a school than negative information, so standardized tests should be given regularly to their students. In conclusion, standardized test have many pros and cons.
From showing where students, teachers, and even schools need to improve to providing stress to the students and teachers. Standardized tests do many great things for the students by allowing them to compare themselves to others and see areas needing improvement. Teachers can realize what needs a little more focus on the next year and what they taught well. Schools can realize what they may need to improve on as well. Overall, standardized tests bring very good things to students, teachers, and schools, and should be taken by everyone for their own
knowledge.
