What do Sir Thomas More, Steve Jobs, and Viggo Mortensen all have in common? They are all considered to be multifaceted talents known as Renaissance men. Traditionally, a Renaissance man is an expert in many different fields of study. When most people hear the phrase Renaissance man, they think of those that lived exclusively during the Renaissance that started in the fourteenth century. This includes men such as Sir Thomas More, an Englishman most known for writing his iconic book, Utopia, about an ideal political system governed by reason. However, what these people fail to realize is that there are a throng of Renaissance men that are just as prosperous today as the Renaissance men hundreds of years ago. For instance, Viggo Mortensen is not only an acclaimed actor, but he is also a versatile writer, painter, and photographer whose works have been exhibited in galleries in New York and Los Angeles. However, another famous Renaissance man, Steve Jobs, overshadows Mortensen’s accomplishments.
