Why Is The Song Lean On Me Created By Levitin
One of the ideas that was listed in the book The World in Six Songs was friendship. Representing Songs of friendship, the book describes it as people banding together as one and creating a sense of togetherness that only a song can produce. The book also states that songs have been able to grow strong bonds as well as creating a form of synchronized effect between people ever since the early days, causing people to act together. For example, during freshman season of my football career in The Woodlands after every game the team would come together as one and sing a song to give glory to God which united each player and provided a feeling of fellowship. Friendship is represented well in the song Lean on Me created by Bill Withers. This song …show more content…
Joyful songs always cause people to change their perception as the book provides a quote from Confucius “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without” (Levitin 88). When listening to music, your brain’s serotonin levels are changing which is one of the main regulatory chemicals that affect the mood of an individual. Joy is well represented in the song What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. This song is Armstrong’s way of being grateful for what the world has provided and the beauty that is the present and what the future has in store for each and every person. When this song was written, Louis Armstrong was faced with racism during the time, but after the creation Louis was able to look past that and find joy in the creations around him. Louis directly related to Levitin’s definition by being about to find joy through music and having the reaction of expressing his emotion toward the beauty of the earth and those on

The book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews and the song “Over My Shoulder” by Rudderless both strongly show the theme of how important it is to have friends to help guide you through life. In the book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, the main character, Greg, is struggling to get through high school while also experience the tragedy of his friend, Rachel, having leukemia. Greg and Rachel both help each other greatly in different ways. The song, “Over My Shoulder”, is from the point of view of this guy who is struggling with making the right decisions, but he will always have his friend to stay by his side and help him through life, not matter what decisions he makes. The author and the songwriter both convey the same message throughout both of these texts using similar skills, such as dialogue and symbols, even though they use these skills in different ways.…

One strives to find an individual to be able to connect on an intellectual and emotional level. The prime definition of a friend, defined by Google is, “a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection.” Despite there being a concrete definition, friendship has no terminology because everyone’s view on it is distinct and miscellaneous. The pure definition of friendship is defined on one’s own notion. In The Things They Carried, Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon had a bona fide friendship that was equivalent to no other friendship. Mark Fossie and Mary Anne Bell also had a friendship that was beyond than just a friendship. Both relationships were so complementary but yet contradicted each other sufficiently.…

“... her face gleaming with a joy that had nothing to do with Eddie or even this place; it might have been the music.” Connie was so excited and happy to be leaving with this guy, and the music accentuated that feeling. She emotionally connects with it. Another quote that illustrates this is: “And Connie paid close attention herself, bathed in a glow of slow-pulsed joy that seemed to rise mysteriously out of the music itself…” She not only emotionally relates, but spiritually as well.…

At this event, I saw how people including students, parents, faculty, and friends came together from a tired day to listen to smooth classical music. Music has such a mighty effect on people because it is a universal language. People all over the world listen to music, from pop to folk, and enjoy it. Classical music has a way of permeating the heart and relaxing a stressed mind. For example, at the event, one of the pieces the band performed was Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma. Their performance of this piece demonstrated the culture and lifestyle of French music during the 1900s. As the wind ensemble played this piece, the atmosphere in the room shifted because of the lively tone the piece had. People began clapping and moving along to the tempo of the song and joy entered the entire lobby. Music not only relaxes a person, but it alters their mood as well. I was so stunned to see how one piece of jazz music could create a change in so many people in an…

I think a lot of times we don't really listen to the music and don't appreciate the true or full meaning behind a piece. I know I am guilty of not really listening to the music's meaning. Many times I use music to change my mood. I can be bummed out about cleaning my room so I throw on some "happy" music to change my mood. I use music as a crutch instead of a learning experience. I often also find myself listening to the words in the song, but it is not always the lyrics that give the meaning to a song. There can be a song with no words and still give a sense of emotion and meaning through the notes or pace. After reading this essay I put on a couple of the songs by the composers Aaron Copland mentions in this essay. I tried to really listen to all three planes instead of listening to the music instinctively. This is something I have done before back in music class or when I took music lessons, but I forgot how beautiful music really is. Today many young adults, like us in highschool, no longer listen to music that has no lyrics. It is really a different feeling to listen to the melody or rhythm of the song then the crazy lyrics of the songs we listen to today. I think we still like music for the same reasons Copland discusses in his essay, but now the words in the songs play a bigger role in whether or not we listen to it. I think after reading this essay we can all learn to appreciate the meaning to…

Friendship has many definitions, however, they are mainly about friends supporting each other, being selfless, and being respectful. Friendship is demonstrated with support, selflessness, and respect among friends. Friendship means supporting and caring for one another during tough times and absences. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie, who have been friends since childhood, embark on a journey to find work on a ranch when George and Lennie finally discover one, a man working there tells George that he has "never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy” (Steinbeck 29). Individuals at the ranch are surprised to witness mutual care and support between George and Lennie during tough times, particularly during the Great Depression, and it shows that the quote highly…

A true friendship should pose a likeliness to a codependency in nature, all parties benefit from it. If human beings went through life in solitude, our lives would be bleak. The use of music in this film is a technique used to trigger an emotional response from the viewer. An example of this in Bowling for Columbine is the Happiness is a Warm Gun montage which contains stock footage of a number of murders and suicides. Another example is the use of the Louis Armstrong song, What a Wonderful World, set to another montage of American foreign policy decisions over the last fifty years. These and other songs are used, often to the point where they can be viewed as sarcastic, because the songs often contradict what is being shown on the screen. While there are no special effects used in the movie, the music itself can be construed to a degree as an effect, nor are there any specific lighting effects.…
