Equality is still a problem in America today. But like the personal freedoms and civil liberties, equality is also being improved today. Equality most certainly didn’t start off as a working post-war promise. Women were oppressed, African-Americans were segregated and dehumanized. Equality didn’t exist mostly in the 50s and 60s unless it was among white men. A woman couldn’t talk to their husbands like they do today, they don’t have to adhere to traditional roles like they did 40 years ago. African Americans aren’t segregated anymore and the first step to the promise was when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was put into action and segregation was ruled unconstitutional. Jumping ahead to the future, up until three years ago, it was illegal for two people of the same sex to get married. The term “homosexuality” came around many, many years ago and it took decades later to finally legalize gay marriage. America has tried to protect the civil liberties of minorities but there are some citizens who are hell bent on taking that away from people. For example, racism/segregation became illegal when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was enacted. Yet you have many white supremacists doing exactly what they did back then. Police brutality, as mentioned before, is a recurring issue and cops get the unfair treatment in the court of law. This leads to how the radical left wants to enforce more gun control laws or even take guns away from the American people. Taking away the 2nd Amendment!
