Why Are More Students Taking Online Classes

Going into my second year of online classes I can truly relate to the other students my age taking online courses. Right now 450,000 students in the United States have abandoned traditional public schools for an online education (Pellissier). Many people say that taking an online class presents the risk of procrastination for young students, but I believe there is a lot of good that comes out of taking an online course. Online classes fit into the busy schedules of high school and college students; they are available 24/7 so the student can learn the material at their own pace and study whenever needed.

One smaller reason why more students are taking online classes is because of the school bullies. In 2013 about 160,000 kids stayed home because they were too afraid to go to school (Bullying and Suicide). Every school has those few kids who just want to pick on everyone else. Public schools can sadly be an emotional setting for students and it can cause problems for those students in the future. Another issue with bullies in public schools is that the bullying can get violent. In public schools, kids can not only get mentally hurt, but also physically and parents don't always notice or realize the signs of their child being bullied.

A reason why I personally would love to have all online classes is the commute. If I didn't attend a public school and I took all online classes I could sleep in, work comfortably in whatever I wanted to wear and I wouldn't have to worry about getting up and driving to school every day when really I can get just as good, if not better education sitting in my own living room. I think if I was a parent of younger children I would like that my kids could sleep in every day and still get a full education. Sleep for children is important, and when people have kids that like to fight going to bed at night they

Firstly, the approach of online schools, allows the students to engage in simulations, leading into more hands on work, with little to no risk of injury in students. For example, students would be able to complete lab experiments that would be far too dangerous, or costly in reality. Not only that, but students could see the midst of a battle in their history class, or a recorded discovery of something completely new in science.…

The Quality of education does not always depend on the professor who is teaching a course, but on the will that the student has to learn. For some students, an online course is just as effective and as challenging as any physical course that can be taken. Although this may be true, there are both advantages and disadvantages to taking online courses. An online course may be convenient to students who have a family who they need to always be home with or someone who may even have a disability. An online class allows them to learn from their computers and not have to even leave their homes. An online course also allows both the school and student to both save money. An online course is not as expensive as a physical course, which saves the student money upon enrollment. The school will save money because instead of the students being in a physical classroom, they will be at home and the school will not have an increase in maintenance bills. A great disadvantage that an online course has is that there is never a professor there to monitor you doing your work, which allows you to cheat at any time. Because of this disadvantage, there are a lot of jobs who do not hold the weight of an online course equal to that of a physical course. In Conclusion, even though to some students an online course is just as challenging as a physical course, it still holds its advantages and disadvantages.…

In today’s world it is an unspoken requirement that anybody who wishes to succeed must have a college degree. This means physically going to a college classroom or attending school online. Because of the sink or swim economy, it is not always possible to give up a job, or leave your family behind to go to a four year university full time. For those people, online schooling is the best option to obtain higher education. Online schooling is simple in some ways, in other ways it is more difficult, but overall it is incredibly beneficial.…

Another major contributing factor to a positive outlook on online classes is that there are virtually no geographical restrictions. As long as you can put yourself somewhere with Internet access, you can take the course. Along with the ability to be anywhere you want, you can also go nowhere and simply take the class from home. This means the student can save a multitude of time and gas money. A good example of someone who would utilize this would be someone who lives far away from a college, and still wanted to get a degree without having to commute back and forth many miles everyday.…

It seems that technology is growing, improving, and changing at an exponential rate. Technology now affects every part of our lives from the time we get up to the time we go to bed, and even as we sleep. One of the major areas that has been affected by technology is education. At one time, the only option for students to complete their education was in a traditional classroom setting. There has become a major need for non-traditional education because there has been a growth in the amount of non-traditional students that exist in our society. The advancement of technology has recently allowed for education to be completed in an online setting instead of in a traditional classroom setting. Online education is an effective and comparable alternative to a traditional classroom setting, and it can be a great opportunity for a non-traditional student to further his or her education and become one step closer to being a successful, self-sufficient individual.…

I think more and more people are choosing going back to school online due to the fact they can fit school into their already busy schedules. Some advantages to asynchronous learning is there is no certain time for students to check in. however they do have a certain number of days to log into class. For example you have to log in at least twice a week at Ashford. Whereas assignments on a campus would have to have your work done by Friday, you have until Monday to get your work done online.…

Just like there are conveniences of going to school online rather than traditionally, there are the cons of this as well. The biggest cons of going to school online, is that you do not have that face to face interaction with your peers or teachers. The lack of social relations can be damaging to some. Even though most people think you more freedom online rather than a traditional environment is not always true. If you have children, outside family issues, etc…

I’m not one that likes to speak in front of a crowd or any type of public speaking. I’m a very shy person so I have more confidence in speaking through the lines of the computer. Online classes allows a shy person to be more comfortable in interacting in discussion with others because you are not face to face and you don’t have to be nervous about it. All students are treated 100% equal and you don’t have to worry about being judge about age, race, or gender. It sad to mention that but in reality it still is people that are…

Online school isn't that bad of an idea. Students would focus more on the school work. In a regular classroom students might sit next to their best friends and easily get distracted. MIght start conversations in class and easily get of topic and end up not doing the work. It would be difficult to get distracted if you are home doing the work on the internet. You wouldn't have anybody to talk to but you're teacher or fellow class mates through online chat. Yeah students might get distracted because of their phones but parents can easily take their phones away till their lessons over.…

Ten years ago it was estimated that there were very small number of students who were enrolled in online classes. (Lytle, 2011) Now in 2015 that number has increased to 6.7 million students. (Seaman, 2013). According to the Sloan online survey, every year there is 12.1 percent growth of online course through the US colleges and universities. (Lytle, 2011) With the increase in this kind of convenient, virtual education comes with some serious consequences. Virtual classes are a great alternative to busy moms, full time employees, or perhaps even the disabled population but it all comes with a cost. This country needs people who are capable or appropriate interactions and are bold in character to lead them into the future. Traditional campuses provide an atmosphere that forces the students to develop these needed skills. Online classes are limiting this socialization, robbing students of the opportunity to make valued memories while lowering the quality of the education and increasing the opportunity for cheating. Colleges need to consider creating well rounded generations rather than making tons of money from growing online…
