Why Should Books Be Censored

“Banning books gives us silence when we need speech. It closes our ears when we need to listen. It makes us blind when we need sight”, said Stephen Chbosky, author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Censorship isn't needed because it limits children's variety of books that they can check out and read. The idea of censoring books is odd to me. I don’t quite understand why people think it’s okay to take a book that was worked on hard by a committed author,off the bookshelf, not allowing people to read it? There is a majority of different opinions on this topic, but personally, I think that books do not have to be censored. There are books written on topics that could offend people such as religion, gender, ethnicity and many more, but I’m not
An example of the importance of exposure to political texts is the election last year, which caused a lot of controversy between people. After the election, there was obviously books written about it, and if little 9 year olds want to keep up with those events, I say that kids can read what they want to. There are also topics such as religion that could be more intense, but I think that kids under about 8 years old, will not lean towards books that have blood and knifes and intense pictures on the cover. But then again, parents should be able to tell their kids what to read and what not to. Books such as The Lorax, The Outsiders, and even the Bible have been censored many times throughout history. Most people, including me, view that as crazy and odd, but when people censor books, they take into consideration that some people may be offended by the things written in the book. I think that when censoring books, the people doing so should only censor the book if the majority of people think that the book should be
