Why Should Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl Be Recovered?
In my personal opinion, I believe that Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl should be prosecuted. Although I believe that he should be prosecuted I do believe that he should receive a punishment for his desertion, I do not believe that he should receive a harsh punishment. The five years that Bowe was held in captivity was punishment enough for having deserted. Bowe was in the worst possible place he could have been in while he was held captive by the Taliban in Pakistan. To me that’s been punishment enough even though he committed a serious military crime.
While in weeks of training for the Coast Guard, Bowe seem to have what some might say looked like a mental breakdown. Leading him to be discharged from the Coast Guard. The discharge Bowe received was categorized as an uncharacterized discharge. This type of discharge has nothing to do with the psychological

A 15-6 report tells what the mission was, what really happened, and if anything could have been done differently during the mission. After Bowe deserted and it was known he was captured by the Taliban the men in his platoon were told to always have an eye out for him. There were six men who died in the five years that Bowe was held in captivity. I think that the main missions that the men were killed on had absolutely no correlation to looking for Bowe. They were just trying to complete their mission and Bowe was just an afterthought to them. Not a single 15-6 report mentions a “missing soldier, as the objective” of any the missions the men were on when they were killed (Serial Podcast). Based on the 15-6 reports that I have seen and read it is my personal opinion that none of the men who were said to be killed while looking for Bowe were actually killed while looking for him. I believe the men were killed on missions not relating to

In accordance with AFI 51-202 a Nonjudicial Punishment can only be imposed on an officer by a Colonel or higher. So for Lt McClane this decision must be pushed up to the Wing Commander, with your recommendations. The maximum punishment that the Wing Commander can impose is an LOR and thirty das restriction. If this is the course of action that is chosen, Lt McClane must be informed in writing of his NJP. He must be giving the opportunity to read it and sign it. Open being given notice of the NJP, he is allowed 3 working days to respond to the NJP, and he can seek counsel. If Lt McClane refuses to sign NJP, this issue can then be taken to a Court Material. Lt McClane should be offered this NJP with twenty-one days of the discovery of this offense, and the NJP should be started within eighteen days of it being offered. If the NJP is accepted it must be filed in an Unfavorable Information File for two years, per AFI 36-2907. Both the Article 15, UCMJ and LOR must be filed for two years.…

All in all, Bowe Bergdahl suffered a variety of ways. In failed in his escape attempts which caused physical pain and isolation for him. In my opinion, I believe that Bergdahl did not actually want to be there. No one should have to go through what he went through even if he was a deserter. Bergdahl has been through enough, he has been tortured, deprived of food and water, and has been abused emotionally. Bergdahl should not have to face criminal punishments in the United States because he has seen things and experienced things no human being should ever have to see or…

Lieutenants Harrington and Jack Sturgis. About 30 men had made a run for their lives down a little gully. The banks of the gully were teamed with Indians, who managed to shoot down the escaping soldiers as they ran. One officer was reported by the Sioux to have managed to break through the deadly circle of Indians, the only white man to do so that day. Five warriors gave chase. It is reported that as the pursuing band was worn down, and giving up the chase, the officer concluded that all was lost, and took his pistol, and shot himself in the head. This soldiers skeleton was pointed out to the officers of the Fifth Cavalry the following year by one of the pursuers. It had not been found before then. Was it Harrington or could it have been Sturgis? Some years later yet another skeleton was found even further from the battle scene. Remnants found at the scene indicated that it was a cavalry officer. If so, all the missing would be accounted for.…

Several people and newspapers have tried to prove the story as false over time and have failed. Beah has many supporters and people he met along the way to back him up. The only real questions posed by journalists are ones based on supposedly wrong dates that have been proven right by Beah’s supporters. In the end, Beah is an honest man and author who spun his experience into a memoir to share it with the world. He shared it so others in similar situations would not have to be alone in their journey to rehabilitation and that more people could know that the child soldier recruitment is a real problem facing the world…

The soldiers who were not participating are just as guilty as those who did. These acts are not what America prides itself on and not what my idea of America is. Strong leadership probably could have prevented the problem or at the least kept it from getting to the point that it did. If the officers in charge of the prison would have recognized that something was going wrong and put an end to it the problem could have been solved there. When a soldier transferred in and saw that the soldiers there were abusing their powers they could have reported it and maybe the abuse would have ended. Strong leadership does not always mean the top person does something sometimes it means that the person at the bottom must step up and fix the problem. At Abu Ghraib, there was not any strong leadership.…

Let me take you back to one of the darkest days in American history. Monday April 5th, 2013 in Boston Massachusetts two men by the names of Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Anzorovich Tsarnaev partook in an act of terror on US soil. Two trash can bombs were planted nearby the finish line of the annual Boston Marathon, and the damage these bombs did will forever live in infamy. After the attack, a man hunt through the streets of Boston took place tracking down the men who had commit a mass crime and an act of pure evil. The first of the two brothers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was shot when he was found; however, the second brother was later captured and taken into custody. Now here lies the question, what punishment is appropriate for someone who committed an act of terror, killing three and injuring over 200…

In 1968 during the Vietnam War, the Charlie Company led an attack on the small village of My Lai 4. The settlement was inhabited by Vietnamese civilians and harbored no military-aged men. One of the platoon leaders, Lt. William Calley, directed the murders of many defenseless civilian women, children, and the elderly. About five hundred civilians were found in mass graves after the massacre. The buildings of the settlement were also destroyed. This is similar to the killings of the surrendering Indians of Sand Creek and subsequent burning of the village. Calley and Chivington both also fabricated military reports in an attempt to cover-up the truth. Despite the nature of both massacres being exposed for the public, no significant punishments were ever enforced on either Calley or Chivington. No criminal charges were ever filed against Chivington, and the criminal charges filed and convicted against Calley ultimately resulted in no punishment due to public and presidential support of him. Ultimately, these massacres have shown that our military has many times acted inhumanely towards other ethnicities and nationalities only to receive a slap on the wrist in punishment, as well as the significant condoning of these actions by American…
