Bowe Bergdahl Research Paper
Imagine being a United States Army soldier stationed in Afghanistan under a unit that has poor leadership and may result in the deaths of fellow officers. This exact scenario happened to Bowe Bergdahl. Bergdahl is a United States Army soldier who was trying to inform the Army about the poor leadership of his unit. His technique was going to try to create a “DUSTWUN,” or “Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown.” Bergdahl fled from his post in Afghanistan, he traveled to a small village outside the base called “OP Mest.” While he was there, he bought a local outfit and traveled on foot across the desert. However, while walking across the desert, he had forgotten to check his compass for several hours, resulting in a major detour. Bergdahl was then captured

For example, when the Taliban moved Bergdahl to the Mountain Fortress, he plotted for months on an escape. He gathered a variety of items which included a nail, a piece of PVC pipe, an empty Mountain Dew container and some pieces of clothing. In the middle of the night, he threw the rope, which were the pieces of clothing tied together, out the window in an attempt to escape. The escape lasted for about nine days until the Taliban found him. However, while he was on the run he accidently fell off of a cliff which limited him from using his left side. This subject is important because it shows that he does not want to be a captive of the Taliban. He attempts to escape a variety of times, however, he was unsuccessful all of those times.
All in all, Bowe Bergdahl suffered a variety of ways. In failed in his escape attempts which caused physical pain and isolation for him. In my opinion, I believe that Bergdahl did not actually want to be there. No one should have to go through what he went through even if he was a deserter. Bergdahl has been through enough, he has been tortured, deprived of food and water, and has been abused emotionally. Bergdahl should not have to face criminal punishments in the United States because he has seen things and experienced things no human being should ever have to see or
