his arrest for violating the Espionage Act, resulting in him being convicted and sentenced to ten years in prison.
Under this system, the classes were divided. Companies that distributed goods were produced by a group of small minorities in which controlled the global economy. We refer to this group of people as the capitalist class. The production of goods and services are then sold for a profit while the working class are paid the bare minimum . The profit is gained by the capitalist class because they can make more money selling what we have produced, rather than the cost to buy on the labor market. With that regard, the working class are exploited by the capitalist class, meanwhile the capitalists live off the profits they obtain from exploiting the working class and reinvesting some of their profits to further their wealth.
Dissents were suppressed because they were persecuted for the sake of the truth.
This was not a war for democracy, because the people had no say. Democracy is for the people by the people, however during this time nobody had a voice of their own. Those who are held in a higher position of power are the ones who took initiative, although the voices of the people should be heard because they are the ones going into war. The capitalists make it so easy for the United States to go into war because they have nothing to lose, however the working class does. Who goes into war? Capitalist? No, the working class. The working class are who make the supreme sacrifices. They shed their blood and risk their lives, however have never had a voice in either declaring war or making peace. It is the capitalist class that consistently does both; “They alone declare war and they alone make peace”(Eugene V. Debs speech).
The people of the United States have been taught to honor the capitalists and what they say.
The people are to believe that when the capitalist declared war upon one another, it was their patriotic duty to cut one another's throats for the profit and glory of the rulers. To what does the working class gain? Nothing. The capitalist class have always declared the wars meanwhile the working class always fought the battles. The capitalist class has had all to gain and nothing to lose. The cost was far higher than Americans anticipated, with more than a hundred thousand American soldiers dead. This capitalist class who tells the working class that we are fighting this war to make the world safe for democracy, shuts out all humanity from his private territory which is why I agree with Eugene V. Debs. The capitalist profiteers at the expense of the people who have been killed and disfigured, under the deception of being the great Americans
patriot. The capitalist is in fact the arch-enemy of the people that needs to be wiped from power.
Who is it that makes this land valuable? The working class. The lower class is known to be “uneducated and ignorant”, however Eugene V. Debs stated “give me a hundred capitalists and let me ask them a dozen simple questions about the history of their own country and I will prove to you that they are as ignorant and unlettered as any you may find in the so called lower class”. The capitalist speaks of the working classes “patriotic duty” however, it is not their patriotic duty they are concerned of, but the working class is. The capitalist are never to be taken out into the “firing line” or serving the war which consists of going into trenches, but that's what's expected of from the working class. Dubs insists that we unite and act together on the industrial field, we vote together as one class to develop the supreme power to bring permanent peace to the world to conquer public power.
