Why Should We Care About Ecuador
1. What is A? Why is it there? Why should we care?
This is Ecuador, called this because it lies right along the equator. Half of the country is part of the Amazon basin, and the other is part of the Andes mountain range. Ecuador is also on the coast of South America, along the plates that are shifting and the same plates that caused the Andes. We should care about Ecuador because it is a provider for oil, closer to the United States than our other providers of oil in the Middle East. The large oil companies are risking not only the environment in the Amazon, but the tribes and other people who happen to be living in these areas where oil is being pumped out of the ground. The conditions that the tribes are living in are not safe, since the
companies burn oil on the surface, which causes bad air quality. They also leave oil lying about, which gets into water supply and causes issue there too. These tribes are suffering, but they really have nowhere to go.
