The flock suddenly appears discombobulated as they frantically crash into statues, pedestrians, and buildings throughout the city. The passerbys enter into a full fledged panic as the plummeting pigeons break through various windshields and glass windows. This occurrence however, would prove to be the first physics failure in the film considering the average pigeon found in urban areas weigh in at only 13 oz fully grown. At their relatively small size pigeons flying in their average cruising range, between twenty and thirty miles per hour, would be unable to shatter glass, especially safety glass used to make cars. Although birds attempting to fly into a glass surface is not an uncommon phenomenon, the intensity of the situation portrayed in The Core is beyond …show more content…
This event is prompted by the deterioration of the electromagnetic field surrounding Earth, when radiation seeps through a gap in the magnetosphere just over the city, causing inevitable destruction and death (Michelle Ealey). However, this phenomenon is extremely inaccurate due to the fact that although the magnetosphere at times experiences shifts, it has never actually vanished as shown in the film. Theoretically, if this were to happen, the remaining layers of atmosphere, which has a depth of multiple miles, would be able to prevent the radiation from penetrating the Earth’s most valuable defense system against such harmful rays. The atmosphere is vital for the existence of all life, and without it the planet would be uninhabitable and all lifeforms would promptly go extinct. Nevertheless, a minor gap, would not be nearly as devastating, and would most definitely not have caused the demolition of the Golden Gate
