Why Was Atlantis Lost

Atlantis is a legendary city that was first described in the work of a Greek philosopher named, Plato. Many people believe that the city became lost or some might say it disappeared or sank. This being said, Atlantis still remains as a mystery 2,000 years later and many conspiracy theories were created. A few theories are, Atlantis was mid-Atlantic, Atlantis was Antarctica, and Atlantis was the legendary Minoan civilization. Overall, Atlantis did once exist and can possibly be ‘till this day.
First, we will begin with how Atlantis was a mid-Atlantic continent that suddenly sank into the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean was only a few hundred feet deep, described as a continent flooded by shifting ocean waters that sank in the exact location Plato said it would (“Explaining the Legend”). Next, is the theory of Atlantis being Antarctica, where people claim that Atlantis did exist, but it never disappeared. Believers in the shifting crust theory, a hypothesis that Antarctica was once a mild, northern continent that was swiftly displaced when the Earth’s crust shifted some 12,000 years ago (“9 Mind Blowing”). Finally, is the theory of the legendary Minoan Civilization being Atlantis. Ocean explorers state up to date less than five percent of the ocean has been explored, meaning it is possible for the city to still be alive deep down. Atlantis was a very knowledgeable place, some believe was controlled by a God and might had discovered ways to live in sea, such as mermaids. As well as, volcanic eruptions or shifting in the Earth’s crust could’ve caused the city to sink.
